Zezima Posted November 30, 2015 Posted November 30, 2015 Every PC in the school says "incompatible database" when trying to log in. Solus on the server hasn't updated over the weekend and neither has the sims/solus clients. I've got a call logged with support but just curious as to whether anyone knows how to troubleshoot / what the cause might be as teachers are desperate to get this back thx
dry Posted November 30, 2015 Posted November 30, 2015 Normally where the SIMS client and d/base are mismatched- i.e. when SIMS hasn't updated properly. Interesting that it's happening when SIMS hasn't updated for you though.... has Solus definitely not pushed out an update quietly? Anything peculiar in deployment history?
Joanne Posted November 30, 2015 Posted November 30, 2015 I always re-install SIMS and it sometimes fixes it. Have you tried using SIMS using pulsar.exe? This is in C:\Program Files\SIMS If it works with pulsar, I tend to change the shortcut on the desktop to that... probably the wrong way to do things, but if it gets it working....
CAM Posted November 30, 2015 Posted November 30, 2015 Run SIMS when logged in as a domain/local admin to update it manually. Make sure to click Yes each time it asks if you want to run the update program (it will do it 3 times).

I've found also that you have to start sims from the shortcut in the start menu for it to look for updates and not use the desktop shortcut... for some reason!
rrrrr Posted November 30, 2015 Posted November 30, 2015 Check the sql database instance is running on server. Had this once, this was cause
vikpaw Posted November 30, 2015 Posted November 30, 2015 I've found also that you have to start sims from the shortcut in the start menu for it to look for updates and not use the desktop shortcut... for some reason! That'll be cos you changed the shortcut to use only pulsar. The start menu default link will use simsload and it's simsload that does the check for updates. This is old school SOLUS 2 talk though. In SOLUS 3 you don't need sims load. If it's coming up with incompatible database, it must think an update was triggered. So worth checking sims.ini and simsload.ini as they are updated with version numbers. A reinstall should/could fix it.

Zezima Posted November 30, 2015 Author Posted November 30, 2015 Aparently there was a hidden update that didn't go through properly. our local authority resolved for us. Thanks for all responses, didnt expect so many :L <3
mrwoberts Posted November 30, 2015 Posted November 30, 2015 Came across something very similar, and just as annoying. Solus 3 deployed the database update on a Friday, and when the clients fired up on Monday morning, Solus agent hadn't upgraded any of them by the time of the morning register! Kind of wish that Solus would be a bit smarter than that. I've advised the school to set Solus to manual deployment until I work out a plan of action. I might adopt the pulsar shortcut idea. Thanks for sharing.
