Dual networks - School LAN and external 3G connection

I've put in a a 2 cam security system with its own DVR.

 

It has LAN connection so you can interface using browser.

 

I'd like to have it connected to a black box to that connects it to LAN and a cheap 3G device so we can interface with it from home and within school.

 

What do I need for the black box?

You should just be able to do some port forwarding to be able to access it from outside your LAN - some DVR's have a build in function that uses a cloud based proxy which may also help (and not need firewall rules ect) might be worth giving those a look/try before trying a router with GSM.

Guess it depends on your LA but we have done it before in the ones we supported

 

Normally requires headteacher letter to assume responsibility of opening the ports but they did it for our systems like CCTV/Radio streaming etc

You have a thew options realy you black box can be a raspberry pi to 3g network or you could just use vpn to access it from home

If you can't get a port opened by LA, you'll likely find they go equally nuts when they discover you've hooked an unauthorised 3G connection up to your LAN too. Check your GfL contract first!

Have you tried? I'm in Lancashire and BTLS have opened any ports i've asked for.

Haha! The ones i've asked for they have always done, i had to open sql 1433 the other day for a school. Although they forgot to open it on the admin range..

LA will forward the port from a public IP address to 10.1.2.3 on your local firewall.

 

At home you'd be going to 123.123.123.123:85 to access it (where 123.123.123.123 is a public IP the LA assign you).
