Exchange prices

DOn't know if this is in the right section but here goes.

 

We currently use our regional broadband consortium to host our emails. Now its been quite unreliable for some time now. What I would like to know is "roughly" how much is an exchange server license and how much would it be for say 1000 user licenses.

 

Ii know I would need accurate prices but just a ballpark figure would do.

 

I am new to Education and come from Government where I used Exchange and used it to its full capacity for meetings, diaries etc. So I would loike to have some idea of cost before I went any further. As you all know, everything comes down to cost in the end.

We've been using zimbra for some time now.

We use the free version and it cost us nothing other than time/server to set up. It offers mostly the same feature set as exchange, and fits into our AD infrastructure. It does spam/antivirus/content filtering for free and has document storage. to make it work with outlook you need to pay for it though.

Also check Ramesys for prices. I find their quotes always hard to beat.

This is what i had for a school back in October, i seem to remember that MS have slightly raised these now but not my much.

For 1000 clients, Exchange Enterprise would be better.

 

Current Ramesys prices are:

 

MS 2003 Server R2 Enterprise £169.00

MS Exchange 2007 Enterprise £439.00

MS Exchange 2007 Cal £1.30

 

Although there are 32 and 64-bit versions of Exchange available only the 64-bit version running on a 64-bit server 2003 is supported by Microsoft.

We are using the OpenSource 'community' edition. We are currently using version 4.5.x but the latest version is version5.

It's also worth speaking to MS direct for 1000+ mailboxes. You will have to sign a NDA but you should get better pricing and maybe even flexible licensing e.g. only pay for CALs as they are activated
