mrbios Posted November 25, 2015 Posted November 25, 2015 Can anyone recommend any alternative methods to allowing students to save documents to their home folder rather than foldr? when we originally purchased foldr it was envisaged that the iPads would be used a lot and the app would be integral to their use, but these days it's used by maybe 3 students a week or something ridiculously small. Essentially its yearly cost isn't worth what benefit it brings, but i would still need some solution to getting pages documents off an iPad for example. Any suggestions?
steveg Posted November 25, 2015 Posted November 25, 2015 We use filebroswer business, and using AirWatch mdm we can push the settings out to it so when the user opens it, it has the network drives showing and just prompts for their username and password. I have got it pointing to a dfs share, and then add our other shares to this, if anything moves I just update the dfs share location and the ipads are always looking in the right place. I preferred this as it was a one off solution, rather than the annual cost of foldr - we did try it, and were really impressed, just couldn't justify the cost. Steve
tmoon-mint Posted November 25, 2015 Posted November 25, 2015 Have you considered using Google Drive or OneDrive for Business? I use Onedrive here and simply log each iPad into the account and install the Onedrive desktop app on the file server. Share the location that onedrive syncs to and map it as a network drive. Very very basic but free and gets the job done, especially if its being used as little as you said.
mrbios Posted November 25, 2015 Author Posted November 25, 2015 Ah i didn't even think of onedrive. I've just put onedrive on one and tested that out, seems like a much better solution....not a chance I'm logging each ipad into onedrive for them though, they'll have to login as themselves (they've all got a school account) and if they don't log out when they're done then that's their own damn fault!
Minnow_IT Posted November 26, 2015 Posted November 26, 2015 Mrbios, sorry to hear you are looking for alternatives. If you would like me to look into this for you please send me a direct message with your school details / number of devices. Thanks
MicrodigitUK Posted November 27, 2015 Posted November 27, 2015 We use "WebDAV Nav+" app in school mode. App config with server settings can be pushed via MDM using managed app config or a webclip lead link to app with settings. Then we have a simple Windows server running IIS webdav and a bit of php to redirect to the logged on users home drive. Free version of WebDAV navigator works well but not got school mode and MDM config options, plus the adverts are in the free one.
