Bev Posted November 19, 2015 Posted November 19, 2015 (edited) I've created 24 email addresses, and created the first AppleID but when I enter the details into the iPad it's requesting a credit card. I know it's possible to 'buy' a free app in iTunes and set up an AppleID without a credit card, but will I have to do that 24 times (once for each iPad?) They really don't make life easy, do they? NB9457 Posted November 19, 2015 Posted November 19, 2015 Guessing you're setting up supervision on the iPads? Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm sure that since iOS9, you can associate one email address with multiple iPads
Bev Posted November 19, 2015 Author Posted November 19, 2015 In fact, it seems they have removed the 'none' option even when buying a free app. I don't really want to put a credit card on each of these AppleIDs.
Arthur Posted November 19, 2015 Posted November 19, 2015 Don't bother with Apple IDs. You don't need them with iOS 9... www.edugeek.net/forums/netbooks-pda-phones/160817-ipads-schools.html#post1374712 If you only have 24 iPads you could use the free Meraki MDM.
Bev Posted November 19, 2015 Author Posted November 19, 2015 I thought if I was deploying apps from Meraki silently then they each had to have their own AppleID? In the past, I didn't have any AppleId on the ipads at all. - - - Updated - - - Don't bother with Apple IDs. Arthur Posted November 19, 2015 Posted November 19, 2015 I thought if I was deploying apps from Meraki silently then they each had to have their own Apple ID? I don't think they are needed with Meraki either. @Brimstone would know. 1
Bev Posted November 19, 2015 Author Posted November 19, 2015 You do need an AppleID, but I might try reusing the same one which would make life easier. https://documentation.meraki.com/SM/Apps_and_Software/Silent_installation_of_iOS_apps Must be associated with an Apple ID Must be supervised using Apple Configurator or Device Enrollment Program Must be running iOS 7 or greater
Bev Posted November 19, 2015 Author Posted November 19, 2015 OK, I've done some digging and maybe I can set it up this way https://documentation.meraki.com/SM/Apps_and_Software/VPP_App_Licensing_by_Device_Serial and then I don't need AppleIDs.
Stevecee Posted November 19, 2015 Posted November 19, 2015 Hi You can create an apple ID without cards details if you create it in icloud rather than itunes! Cheers Steve
Brimstone Posted November 19, 2015 Posted November 19, 2015 OK, I've done some digging and maybe I can set it up this way https://documentation.meraki.com/SM/Apps_and_Software/VPP_App_Licensing_by_Device_Serial and then I don't need AppleIDs. Bev, It all depends whether you are using new free licences from Meraki which have a full feature set and will let you apply apps to the device via the serial number. Existing users with the free licence and more than 100 devices can not use the new iOS9 feature set. IMPORTANTLY; Not all app developers on the app store have moved over to device assignment for their apps, this is entirely down to them and not Apple, so worth checking on the developers site before you deploy the app.
Bev Posted November 20, 2015 Author Posted November 20, 2015 I have moved to the new Meraki as we have less than 100 devices and I can't see us ever reaching 100. I did eventually manage to get an app to install silently, I had been repurchasing the Apps through Meraki (Or so I thought), but I had to log into the VPP website and repurchase them all through the website and then it worked.
mikkydoos Posted November 26, 2015 Posted November 26, 2015 In fact, it seems they have removed the 'none' option even when buying a free app. I don't really want to put a credit card on each of these AppleIDs. They haven't. I did it yesterday
