MS Outlook 2010, iCloud and Gmail contacts issues

I've got a family friend thats having some problems accessing his contacts list for iCloud using Outlook 2010.

 

I'm not familar with iCloud or Outlook 2010 so I don't really know how to 2 work together. Hes using a gmail email address for iCloud which I'm assuming syncs all of his contacts and calendar appointments across all his devices iOS and Windows.

 

When he clicks on "Addresses" in Outlook he gets the following error messages for the iCloud address book

 

 

And when clicking on "Contacts" in outlook it gives this error message.

 

 

Googling the error doesnt reveal any sound information on the problem and the ones that are similar have no answers.

 

He seems to believe it was related to the latest Windows 10 update he did but I don't think that its the cause.

Anyone offer any help? There are lots of Apple users on this forum someone must have an idea!

 

I guess these are the problems you can get when 3 competing vendors are trying to talk to each other.

Do they have the local icloud app installed? as there's a sync option within that for Outlook, and then outlook syncing to icloud via web etc?

They do have the iCloud application installed and the plugin in Outlook is enabled. In the past that has disabled itself and I have had to re-enable it via the plugins menu)

 

I'm wary of resyncing iCloud because last time we did it we ended up with 2 calendars somehow. But yes iCloud should resync via the web. Its like the address book has been deleted somehow, but I've no idea how it could have happened.

 

Hes been using this setup for a long time and has calendar appointments for the next 2 years!!!

I had a family member who was having issues recently with Outlook and iCloud. I figured that rather then keep having the issues i'd use the imap protocol instead and uninstalled the plugin. In relation to contacts I know that there is a setting in iTunes for contact syncing that is able to sync with Outlook.

 

So it should work like this:

 

iCloud > iPhone > Sync Service (iTunes Connector) > Outlook

 

then the user could also make a change on Outlook, and when they sync with iTunes it would sync with their phone.
