Help with Network Home Folder

We have a Mac Server Yosemite (10.10.3) and have 25 Macbook Pros bound to OD. I have created the users and all is working relatively well. However we are experiencing some issues with some applications (Outlook, Chrome, Firefox) not responding when a network user is logged in or it responds extremely slow. At the moment all home directories are stored on the Mac server in a Users share.

 

If i change the Home directory to "Local Only" everything works as expected, however any files saved on the desktop or documents folder are not accessible from any other computer.

 

Can anyone suggest how best to deal with user Home Folders in a network environment. My users have to be able to log on to any Macbook and have access to their documents folder.

Im guessing its slow because the ~/Library folder is on a network share, and all these applications will be writing and reading lots of things to it. We force local home folders and then create symbolic links for the documents folder as a login script as to avoid this kind of performance issue.

Also, get that version of Yosemite patched up - 10.10.3 was buggy IIRC!

From doing some research it appears as if you are correct Quackers!! Thank You.

Would you be able to share your logon script, i am a complete noob with regards to Macs. Are you using Profile Manager to push the script out?
