I know anonymous gets ridiculed and people like to make fun of the hacker group but they can be very powerful in their own right. Just look at what they did to the KKK released 100's of Facebook accounts linked to the KKK over the internet which resulted in a lot of KKK members leaving the group as they where scared for their own safety.

If anonymous can do the same kind of thing but widespread to ISIS members or take down major websites and steal documents that are affiliated with ISIS I believe they could make a real impact.

@Arreks it's more than DDoS on a website. It's publishing information and pictures of "operatives" in allied territory.

 

They did the same against the KKK, published thousands of pictures, names and addresses, and many people had to move or turn themselves in etc because they feared for their own safety. Several dozens of them were beaten to within an inch of their lives.

 

Whilst I doubt ISIS members and sympathisers fear for their safety, it does give means for the authorities to detain them, finger print them etc and deport them.

 

Not only this, they have the means to disrupt money flow in the organisation, at least electronically. This could amount potentially into the billions and make things very difficult for ISIS.

Not quite sure how scared a person who is willing wear a suicide vests will be by someone revealing there ID - especially as they aren't wearing masks, might just accelerate the plans perhaps. Still they might publish who is behind it all, ie the folks making all the money, like who's buying all that oil - still the Russians apparently know and have told folks, that might be because they want folks to buy Russian Oil.

 

If nothing else, it'll give all the governments someone to blame for all this illegal hacking going on

Didn't a few innocent people have their names released as part of the KKK thing? and as stated some of the people on that list were assaulted. That's the problem with vigilantism, they could end up doxxing someone innocent who ends up dead because of it.

My problem is that now, whenever the news reports an 'Anonymous tip' I'm not really sure what they mean is it anonymous or was it from Anonymous..?
