rcmcdonald91 Posted November 16, 2015 Posted November 16, 2015 Greetings, I'm new to the iPad scene and frankly am left scratching my head. I have 20 iPads that are going to be shared across our K-8 classrooms. I've purchased AirWatch for our MDM solution. Here are my questions: How do I organize my institution's Apple IDs: One for VPP/DEP/AIFS (Apple Deployment Programs) (i.e. [email protected]), One regular Apple ID ([email protected]), etc. What about Apple ID's for the devices themselves? [email protected], [email protected], etc. How do you handle Apple ID's for shared devices?
Bev Posted November 17, 2015 Posted November 17, 2015 Our ipads don't have any AppleIDs on them at the moment, and we distribute all Apps through Apple Configurator but I think that's not considered correct. I have sort of made it up as I go along. There is a good link here http://www.edugeek.net/forums/how-do-you-do/143645-ipad-setup-idiots-guide.html

You can then setup an appleid at deploy.apple.com to be part of the DEP and VPP program. Once these have been setup, your apple reseller can add the iPads to DEP. You'll also have to setup DEP to connect to your MDM server so the devices show up. We setup an apple ID per device but apple have recently allowed apps to be assigned to devices rather than an apple ID. This means the app can be put on iPads without the need of an apple ID. Note: the app developer has to enable this functionality so not all apps are available for this method. You can check if an app has this enabled when you have access to the VPP purchasing area. I think your priority it to get DEP and VPP setup. Then focus on setting up config profiles for ipads.
