I have Smoothwall Express at home and have just had to install a Virgin Media Superhub. Have access to Internet but can no longer access Smoothwall via the web as I get a "DNS lookup failed" error. Have flushed the DNS but that hasn't worked. Very new to all of this. Please can someone offer some help. Thanks.

Have you enabled transparent proxy?

You are talking to someone with very little experience. Where do I find this. Sorry to be such a numpty

Yes I do know the ip address.

Is it on the same subnet as your computers? (changing the router may change your internal subnet , and that would almost certainly 'break' any 3rd party firewall)

If it is still on the same subnet as your computers can you connect to it using it's IP address instead of its hostname?

Do you mean this (ie you can't access the Smoothwall Express remotely from outside of your house) or do you mean you can't browse the (filtered) internet through your Smoothwall Express?

Is the Smoothwall Express box physically in between your network and the Virgin box, or just connected to the network? (How many cables go into the Smoothwall Express will answer that question)

Hi there.

Before i connected the virgin hub i use to be able to put the ip address of smoothwall into my google chrome address bar and it would allow me to access smoothwall. Since connecting the virgin hub when I put the original ip address for smoothwall into chrome it comes up with "the device or resource is not setup to accept connections on port 441". The other error that I am getting is "dns lookup failed" thank you for your help

If they are all on the same subnet and you can't connect to the web interface I am out of ideas. (never had a smoothwall to play with).

Perhaps someone else can help.

Try the IP of your Smoothwall followed by :81 for example 192.168.0.1:81/

Another option is that the Superhub has stolen the IP of the smoothwall system.

If you try browsing to the IP without specifying a port (e.g http://192.168.0.1/) you would see a Virgin branded settings page if the above is true.
