Promethean ActivBoard +2 Height Adjustment broken

Hi,

 

Can anyone offer me any insight into how the height adjustment mechanism works on the Promethean ActivBoard +2 V2? Something has gone on one of ours, it won't stay where its put, it just zooms back up to the top.

 

It's a manual mechanism on these boards, not electric. As far as I can tell, there are counterweights which offset the weight of the board to assist it going up, but these seem to have overridden whatever normally keeps them in check. Is this just friction, and if so, where would it be applied?

 

I called Promethean UK support on this one, but they're closed for training and give no indication of when they're reopening!

I am not sure if we have the same board as you but our rise/fall Promethean board will only move if we release a handle below the board [pull the handle away from the wall] I will try to get a picture of the board and the handle later.

Yeah, as far as I can tell the only check on the movement seems to come from a black twist handle with a small keyhole on it, which seems to screw into one of the side pillars.

 

The model I'm working on is the V2 DaveP, which is identifiable by the orange stripes on pillars and projector boom.

Pulling the lower of the two handles away from the wall horizontally and holding allows the board to move up and down.

The one you have is a counterweight in the frame and the black handle should lock in to provide some resistance (but not total on any of ours)

 

There is sometimes a max height bracket on the top of the frame that you can lower down if you want limit the max height it can be raised, but for us the only time any of the boards get lowered from their maximum settings is when we're cleaning the filters on the projector.

Thanks Boredguy. Yes, this appears to be (one of) my problems. The black handle was not locking, as part of the mechanism was loose (the silver disk that sits inside the pillar in that picture), indeed, as it seems to be on all of our boards of this type. Having screwed that back in fingertight, I can now lock the board static (although it will move if pushed, it's not a great lock).

 

So now the only other question is why the board keeps drifting up, instead of staying where put. I think I may have just realised my own silly mistake here - I'm replacing the projector on this board, so it's currently underweight. Is the counterweighting on these finely balanced enough that removing a projector would completely throw it? Hopefully its as simple as that.

 

I've done another of these this morning, but on the other I'm guessing that (what was left of) the friction from black handle locking mechanism was holding the weight difference, whilst still allowing me to move the board up and down quite easily. Best revisit that one and fix the lock!

If your new projector is lighter than the XE41 or PRM1, then you will find it will not balanced any more.

I'd be tempted to take the orange plastic cover off at the end of the boom and secure some weights in there to make up the difference and then re-secure the plastic cover.

Ahem, yes, it was the weight of the projector missing that was causing the trouble. Just installed the new one and we're perfectly balanced again.
