Hi,

This may be the stupidest thing you read this week so apologies in advance!

I've set up an O365 E1 account for our school. I've verified our domain and created a few test users to have a play with. We do want to (eventually!) migrate all our user inboxes from our local Exchange server to O365. It's the migration part that's got me in a slight spin.

Ideally I'd like to:

* Sync all our users in AD with O365 so everyone has a school O365 account

* Migrate all teacher mailboxes across to O365

* Roll out O365 to all users : at this point all email sent to a school email address should go to O365 rather than our local Exchange server. Teachers will log into O365, their inbox is as it should be and they are not missing any emails

* Finish off by migrating student mailboxes to O365

* Have very little downtime or users unable to access emails

I'm probably waywayway wrong but it looks like O365 needs me to change MX records before I can do anything else... If the MX records are pointing at O365 but I don't have any users set up, how will that work?

You need to look at setting up a Hybrid Exchange server. With that in place the mail routing is all sorted out so the MX record can stay pointing at your on-premises exchange setup.

Hi, thanks for that - I'm just looking at the hybrid deployment docs now.
