What sort of compression / duplication is everyone seeing?

I our drive which stores archive of Staff / Student home drives which i'm about to burn to Blue-Ray and was very surprised to see the results!

Size:111 GB

Size on disk: 1.60 GB

Contains: 198,392 Files 59,853 Folders

There's got to be something else going on here right?

I'm guessing you've got Windows 2012 deduplication in place there? If so, the files within that folder are simply pointers, which point to a hidden folder which contains all the real data.

So, the size to go with is the Size item.

If I go by the Size on Disk option, our 1TB of files comes in at about 8GB... But it wouldn't actually contain any real data!

We see around a 60% saving in space usage through deduplication.

Yep that's right, a bit misleading though...

Thanks for clearing that up.

How do you actually work out your saving then?
