Mentioning Uber/etc when discussing paying by thumbprint, but not a mention of biometrics? I still want my pizza hydrator though

I also reckon we'd be paying for stuff with thumbprints by now if it wasn't for the mass privacy scare over biometric ID in the mid-00s. Edited October 20, 2015 by CAM

I get that somebody might want them for ANPR but if the person ringing 999 can't give a proper description.. "Yeah, it's a blue Mercedes.. Sort of a Saloon type. License plate is.. Uh.. Thin, thin, thin, thick, thin thin, thick, thin, thick, thick, thin th- ah bugger it just rounded the corner." 3

Bit of a surprise how much has been right though, still the fun ones are not quite there yet - Flying Cars, Hoverboard and a shark that comes to bite you.
Patrick Posted October 20, 2015 Posted October 20, 2015 I think a lot of the inventions BTTF got right were because they were cool then and are cool now, build it and they will come sort of thing. BTTF and many others missed the big ones, like email (all the houses had fax machines!) smart phones and tablets. As said before, Bio metrics would be used for payments but it's all down to privacy. Instead we all use our smart phones or contact-less card which NFC phones will replace.

We didn't spend a decade building up the security of Chip&Pin for me to throw it out of the window so willingly Plus I see no need to have my card details on my phone. It makes no sense for me to to do that when it takes such negligible space to carry a card in my wallet (which I always have on me)

Then there will be no reason to leave yourself at the risk of being stranded due to a dead phone when you can just whip your card out and pay that way. And by the time you've recovered any stolen money, the cost of your card getting nicked at point of sale is cheaper than the hundreds for a new iPhone.

We already are. Apple Pay requires my thumbprint before I can pay using my phone in a shop. The Amazon app also requires my thumbprint to complete a purcase from my phone, likewise PayPal Nice and secure that, if my phone gets stolen, nobody is gonna be spending my money unless they've also removed my thumb!

A silver sedan had crashed into a power pole near the cinema. When questioned what speed he was doing, the driver stated that he was doing 88 miles per hour. A 17-year-old man was charged and was in possession of a licence which expired over 30 years ago. Investigations into the vehicle and what a flux capacitor is, are ongoing. The Mount Isa Cinema received a loss of power to the building. Owner Jodi Saunders said the driver got out of the car and asked for a Pepsi. “He also wanted to know when we would be playing Jaws 19,” Jodi Saunders said. The damage to the power pole caused a power outage to the area. Mount Isa Mayor Tony McGrady advised that the power outage caused damage to the town clock, which has stopped working. “We have repairs underway to save the clock tower,” Mayor McGrady said. Its why you have insurance - plus I'm not aware of a card giving the police GPS location of the idiot who nick it or telling you which shop you stupidly left it in. Personally I just like the fact I can go get lunch without remembering my wallet

But lets be honest, we don't all live in a spy thriller and the average phone thief isn't going to go to that much toruble just so they can make GPS tracked payments of no more than £30 per purchase. It'd be far easier to steal your wallet and run riot buying small things with your contactless debit card.
