Hi all,

We are a Google apps for edu site and have blocked youtube for some time now..... last month Google announced that it was no longer supporting youtube for education, and if we wanted to filter the site. We needed to follow the below steps;

https://support.google.com/a/answer/6214622?hl=en&ref_topic=6248111

and configure our Google admin panel.

So i thought we'd give it another go. we use a windows dns server and have a sophos utm for webfilteing.

i find the documentation that google supplies above somewhat incomplete (for my tiny brain anyway).

So just wanted to reach out and ask if anybody had configured this new method, and how you are finding it.

thanks in advance.

In what way have they stopped supporting (i might be a bit late to the notification) but i just googled it and found this https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/2695317?hl=en

Our smoothwall is still redirecting our sixth form to youtube education.

Youtube for Schools has been dieing for ages - it was working for people who had already signed up, but the signup system was broken for over a year and Google announced a replacement for Youtube for Schools at the start of August. As far as I know, its still working for people who have already signed up for it, but no telling how long that will last - I fully expect Google to retire it completely with their usual 30 days notice at some point so I'd recommend making plans to deal with that when it happens.

Its been replaced with a Google-Apps integration and I can confirm it does work, but has a few drawbacks.

This is how to configure the DNS server:

Boils down to adding a few CNAMEs, similar to the "forcesafesearch" bits for normal Google search.
