Played a bit of this last night and thought it is brilliant bar the infinite supplies of everything. Anyone else tried it out and what are your initial thoughts?

Had a few goes on it when I could get the controller out of my boys hands :)

I have to admit I wasn't that impressed (and I REALLY wanted to be). I prefer a more tactical shooter and this seems to be more everyone just lemming running at objectives. The controls feel sluggish and the maps are too empty (or too big). I think the map size and lack of anything interesting in terms of level design is what make it feel less about skill and tactics and more about just running and gunning, respawn and repeat.

One of the most annoying things I come across was the terrible spawning system. Lots of times I got spawned directly in front of a massive group of the enemy team and instantly died. Should either give you a choice of respawn point or just don't spawn you within X distance of an enemy player.

The guns feel weak. I know they are only low level in the beta but considering the size of the maps and the massive empty space on them lots of times you are trying to shoot someone at extremely long distance with a gun that has lots of recall AND takes 6+ hits to kill someone. If the maps were more enclosed or had more obstacles in the way to block LOS and get people closer this wouldn't be such a big deal.

Going to play it a bit more and hopefully it will grow on me but so far it just doesn't get me excited.

Played a few hours last night, can't say I was impressed other than visually it looks nice and the sounds etc are on point, very little depth or learning curve to anything the time I spent on it was more than enough for me to get bored.

Everything feels a little too fast, the sounds are amazing if a little overwhelming when its all going off, you dont get a sense of direction from sounds they all seem to bleed into a big noise.

Played for a few hours last night, I'm gonna go against the grain here and say that I really like it, went in with my usual Battlefield group and we tore up Drop Zone, 5/0 wins in about 4 minutes mostly.

Didn't play too much Walker Assault, a few of us from both teams watched Luke and Vader go at it in one round, Luke lost, I sniped Vader in the back of the head, everyone started losing it and lobbing grenades left right and center. 10/10 will play again.

Everything just looks so unremarkable about it. Unremarkable maps, unremarkable weapons, gameplay that looks like you're running around in unremarkable treacle.

I guess maybe I should download it but I can't help but think it would be a waste of data on my unlimited broadband plan :p

I'll be giving it a quick try tonight. Seen some footage but it looks very much like Battlefield which raises so many alarm bells before I'm past the installer!

Had a quick go last night on swarm mode (or whatever it's version of it is called) - can definitely see the fun to be had with friends. Weapons felt a bit lame, I mean I know there's no reason for a laser pistol to have recoil but it just feels so... puny. That said, the smart rockets didn't give much feedback either.

It certainly looks stunning though and as a lifelong Star Wars fan, I will admit to letting out a joyous giggle at the theme tune, another the first time I shot a Storm Trooper and a big dirty grin when the first AT-ST came at me (even if I was then disappointed that I appeared to be taking a hell of a lot of fire power from it with little damage...)

Hopefully on a harder difficulty it will be a vehicle to be feared.

Also noticed that the pistol seems to be far more like an SMG, insane ROF.

Played it for a couple of hours earlier today and it's fairly entertaining. The presentation is fantastic in terms of visuals and audio. They seem to have streamlined the game down from the other battlefield ones to make it more focussed on action with less downtime. It does feel like it could get pretty repetitive very quickly though but maybe some of the other levels will be more vehicle focussed to add a bit of variety. Plus the initial mission list give the impression that the full game only comes with 7 levels which is worrying. I'm getting the feeling EA is planning releasing multiple chargeable mission expansion packs aplenty to bleed their customers dry over the longer term!

Quite impressed with it overall though from the short time I've spent playing it.

I've had a play of this over the weekend and whilst it is initially impressive, the game wears thin very quickly. After a while it feels like Battlefield just as I feared, Drop Zone is boring and Walker Assault turns into a bit of a mess. It hasn't taken long for air vehicles to dominate either and I can't see what the counter is for that TIE pilot who annihilates any aircraft as soon as their entry animation finishes and then turns their guns on the ground.

Also the Cycler Rifle is a terrible weapon. Not because it sucks but because it is too powerful as it can cause considerable damage to everything from extreme range. It becomes too easy to get in a sniper war across the map even with the cooldown, there is little reason not to take the Cycler Rifle in your hand.

Overall, I became frustrated with the game and found it to be lacking considerably with what's currently on show.

Managed to get on there last night with a mate for a couple of hours. I quite like it, but not £55 like it.

Audio is awesome, and seems like a game to just drop in and out for a bit. Hoped the BETA would have a couple more things to do than what was available.

I'm finding it OK, but some things just annoy the hell out of me. It's very "samey", and I find that it's attracting a HELL of a lot of morons. The usual sort, the'd spam if they could, racist names etc. Teammates spend longer hunting for the vehicular/special character pickups than they do helping their team. No team balancing at all even though it's heavily advertised. I understand unlimited ammo on laser weapons, but unlimited nades? I wonder where they keep those..

Unusually for one of these games though, it performs extremely well on my mediocre spec PC and like above, it does sound awesome.

Had another go at it at the weekend and unfortunately there wasn't any hidden gems that I missed in it. The spawn system needs some SERIOUS work, got over a 100 kills in one match as I was in the AT-AT standing directly in front of the enemy team spawn point. As soon as they spawned I could kill them, then they respawn in the exact same space. I basically locked the enemy team down for a good 2 minutes which is just very poor game design.

It could have been so much more but it is all just so generic and bland. I have played F2P games that had more depth. The worst thing is that my oldest boy loves it so going to end up having to pay good money for it as well :(

I know its a beta but i just felt like battlefield light to me.

Nade spam is an issue, the rate that they recharge is crazy. I thought I read on of of the card tips that you needed to find ammo power ups but that didn't seem to be the case for me.

No recoil bugged me, the laser pistol was a tad over powered.

I also didn't really like the team imbalance, this was due to map design and skins as well. The Hoth map seemed to be very easy for the imperials and hard for the rebels, the hardpoint style pod map seemed harder as a imperial since your all white skin sticks out like a sore thumb, the customization might fix that though.

I loved the original Battlefront games so was really looking forward to this one. Can honestly say I loved this one too. I'm a PC Gamer and found the controls brilliant when I used my gaming keypad. Can't comment on the gamepad controls though.

The pure excitement I felt when I piloted the AT-ST for the first time was immense. I have managed to pilot/play as all of the available characters now and it didn't get old.

The AT-AT walker has 4 different available weapons

The AT-ST is completely controllable and can be used until it explodes

Luke/Vader are great to play as and you feel almost unstoppable when playing as them

The TIE fighters and A-Wings are great fun although there was too much ramming from some players.

The pickups scattered on the Assault map (and dropped next to the pods in the Drop map) feature some great weapons. The imploder grenade is possibly the best sound from a throwable I have heard from any grenade.

Each to their own but I will definitely be purchasing this game on or near release day!

Then again it is canon for that battle. I personally thought that unbalanced multiplayer was pretty fun although maybe the rebels should get a bit more of a reward for denting the AT-AT.

It looks nice, the music is emersive, the sounds are incredable, the visuals stunning. It makes you feel like you're really in the world of Star Wars.

As a game, it was very 'arcadey' IMHO and there was not much replayability in the beta. There was no sense of team work like you get in games like Battlefiled 4, and very little in the way of tatics in either game type. Most people were just running and shooting like loonies or racing to get to the pickups to get a go on the AT-ATs, AT-STs, Tie Fighters etc etc. It also seemd to be rather 'imbalanced' (I don't think I played a single game where the rebels held off the attack on Hoth). This of course led to lots of moaning from one team and a lot of 'Quit b*t**ing noobs!' from the other.

Personally, I'll be leaving it and picking it up at a later date when on sale.

'Quit b*****g noobs!'

I consider myself to have an almost sailor-like vocabulary of English swear words, but I cannot for the life of me work out what that one is...
