Configurator 2 - App Problem

Hi all,

 

We've recently tried setting up new ipads using Configurator 2, however, we have an issue when trying to add apps to the ipads.

 

When applying the blueprint to the ipads, during the "app download" stage, we receive the following error message:

 

An unexpected error has occurred with these 2 iPads.

An underlying service (ACUInternetServiceContext) unexpectedly quit. ConfigurationUtilityKit.error - 0x68 (104)

 

We've tried this at a secondary school, and at a primary school, and get the same error message. Both schools are completely separate networks- different ipads, different mac mini, different vpp account etc.

 

Has anyone else encountered the same or similar error?

 

I'll try contacting Apple and see if there's any resolution, and will update this thread if I find anything.

I had same error message it was because I was not signed into iTunes and did not authorise the computer. See if that works for you.

I logged into itunes as suggested, and authorised the computer, however I've come across a strange result.

 

After logging into itunes I tried applying the blueprint again and it didn't work (same error message). I then tried a further 4 times, didn't work. On the sixth attempt it actually worked fine and deployed the apps correctly. I then wiped the ipads and tried applying the blueprint a seventh time, where it failed with the same error message as above.

 

During my testing, it appears that every now and again it works (maybe something like 1 out of every 20 attempts).

 

It just seems that Apple Configurator 2 is extremely buggy. There doesn't appear to be any differences in my setup between when it works and when it doesn't work - it appears to be completely random.

I have noticed as well that it is very buggy, pretty much the same results as you are getting. All settings are the same but it fails on some of the iPads. Hopefully there will be an update that will make it more stable.

I've got Apple Configurator 2, ITunes and the App Store all open, and it's still failing every time. It gets to installing apps and bombs halfway through. Always the same error.

 

It does everything great up to installing iOS, gets midway through assigning licenses and boom!

Going to play around with my blueprints more, see what I can figure out.

I gave up on downloading them through AC2 and did it the old fashioned way using iTunes and local IPA files. Seemed to work however sometimes apps get stuck at installing and the sync icon wont go away until I restart the device. Not perfect but working better than the other method.

How can you use your vpp account to login onto iTunes? iTunes doesn't allow you to log in, it detects that is the vpp account.

btw iTunes has nothing to do with the AC2.

If your iMac/MacBook is connected wirelessly, then you'll get this error message. It happened to me as well.

I disable wifi, connect network cable and it applies any changes to iPads via AC2 without any errors.

Strangely enough, applying apps seems to work absolutely fine for me now. It doesn't matter if it's on wifi, or plugged in with a network cable, or itunes signed in etc. it just seems to work how it's supposed to work. I haven't changed any configuration on any of the mac's, it just started working by itself.

 

I wonder if Apple has pushed out an update, or changed something on their app store servers etc.

You don't 'login to iTunes' with VPP, as such. You just login to the VPP account. You don't actually have to touch iTunes at all (at least I didn't. I 'purchased' all our free apps via the VPP web pages and then logged in to VPP via Configurator 2)

 

Hm, I'll have to give physically networking it a bash. Didn't think of that!
