Hi

As per title, I'm trying to configure the NIC I've just installed to our UPS. The instruction manual says to use HyperTerminal to connect via the serial port. Apart from the fact that HyperTerminal went out with XP, I also have very few machines with a serial port. I've dug out an old Dell laptop and installed putty. I couldn't connect, so after investigating found that there was an issue with the serial port on the del laptops with windows 7. It can theoretically be fixed by updating the BIOS, but the laptop won't take the BIOS I've downloaded from the Dell website

Is there any other way of configuring it? Or do I need to keep looking for a laptop with a serial port?

can't speak for Dell's UPS but with APC ones you can usually just plug them into the network and it will get a DHCP address. You can then check in DHCP what that is and use a web browser to connect and configure.

Excellent. I'll give that a go!
