Moving Shared Areas to Cloud - GAFE

Hi Guys

 

Has anyone moved staff shares over to Google Cloud? If so do you have the app installed on the local workstation? Does it kill the PC and internet connection when it first trys to sync the Cloud copy to the local PC and does it bloat out the roaming profile?

I would be interested in this too. Our staff have filestore area, but I would love their filestore (or at least a folder within it) to sync with it and was debating installing the app like this but was wondering the same thing.

Google pass all the requirements for UK and EU government requirements in regards to data protection etc

In fact a lot of the UK government now use Google Docs for data storage.

 

I can't find the exact sheet but at a conference last year, they showed a checklist of all the requirements and evidence for each section that Google met it. Most of the info is covered under that link above though I believe

If we are talking staff shares rather than homedrives then you can do it on a single PC and then share with the relevant department. Setup eg. "English,maths,science" accounts, log in and sync them. Then share with the relevant groups, delete the old share and replace it with an URL link to the new shared "drive"

Now that's a good idea - I keep thinking about putting it on our file server, but get scared Stick an old PC in the server room, whack a big WD red in it and bingo - cloud storage with on site back up.

 

Edit: I'm only proposing putting the curriculum share on there at the minute, which only contains lesson plans etc
