User Group Policy Preferences not running first time

Hello,

 

I recently created a new OU structure and moved all pupil accounts into it. I set-up a new default user Group Policy on the new OU. Here is where I am having a problem.

 

If a user logs onto a PC and they already have a local profile. It seems that group policy preferences don't run (I have the detailed status message policy applied and it looks to go direct to preparing desktop) this results in them not getting the pupil shared drive from the new policy. Now if that user logs off and straight back on I can see the policies run and the drive appears! also if a user logs onto a machine they've not used before all works.

 

Anyone know why its not processing the preferences on the new policy straight away? I don't really want to go around clearing the local profiles of all the machines.
