Wireless adaptor keeps turning off since 8.1 upgrade

Hi guys,

 

this issue has been testing my patience, help!

 

I have recently upgraded a trolley of RM Mobile One laptops (Model: T12AR) from XP to Windows 8.1. Upon powering on the laptop, the wireless adaptor is disabled, the only way to turn it on is by pressing the button on the laptop, you cannot do it through Windows. If you restart the laptop, the wireless is fine, its turned on and connects fine.

 

Adaptor drivers are up to date, ive tried preventing windows from turning off device to save power, ive ran windows updates to make sure laptop is fully up to date, there dont appear to be any settings in the BIOS, ive also tried the RM "fix" by updating the BIOS from 1.0 version to 1.1 (which was fun...) ive checked and the BIOS definitely updated to the latest version, cant see any additional settings in there. But power on the laptop and the wireless is still disabled, so, before I apply brightly coloured stickers all over the laptops so they know where the wireless button is and tell them to just get on with it (well not those words exactly) anyone had this issue before and could shed some light on the situation for me?

I've had this with Windows 8.1 and 10 on a older laptop

 

Fix:

 

Right click your wifi adapter -> click Properties -> click Configure -> click Power Management
Uncheck the box “Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power”. 

 

That should do the job.

 

Also running

Restart-NetAdapter "Wi-Fi"

from an elevated powershell prompt works as a quick fix

 

(Replace "Wi-fi" with your actual Wifi Adapter name)
