Yosemite (10.10.5) slow opening from Network Drives

Hi,

We have had so many issues with Yosemite (10.10.5) after upgrading from Mountain Lion (10.8.5).

We have had constant Sibelius issues after upgrading from 6 to 8 like couldn't activate Licence Server at first from the upgrade, couldn't active the Licence on client machines, after successfully activating Licences we then got an error a week later on the client machines, Sibelius running extremely slow when opening, when trying to open past projects saved on network drives and extremely slow when trying to save projects to networked drives. Constant crashing of the software when trying to save to network drives.

Binding issues - clients will not bind to mac server, if you manually input all the details in Directory Utility it works fine and pulls through the settings fine but not through SSL. It seems to have a real problem with SSL.

We have also reported issues of slowness on Yosemite regarding mounted Network Drives, Finder takes ages to open folders in Netowrk Drives from programs such as Logic Pro X, Sibelius, Garage Band, iMovie etc...

Just to let everyone know really and wondering if any one else has experienced these slow issues?

Try this per user setting (open terminal, paste, then logout/login)

defaults write com.apple.desktopservices DSDontWriteNetworkStores true

Every time Mac OS opens a folder on a network share its create a file that stores info , a bit like the desktop.ini that Windows does. That tells it not to which made a big difference on Mavericks for us, so might do the trick on Yosemite for you. You can always re run with false if it makes no difference.

Hi

We have been having this issue for ages and have not found a good solution, so we would also appreciate any suggestions anyone may have. We have noticed that the user library folder has messed up permissions that even an admin cannot read. I have created a ps script to change the ownership and permissions and then delete the library folder for all users and it helps for a little while and then gets itself messed up again.

Thanks

I'm in a relatively small school so I deleted and recreated all the users (created the home folder in Windows, and then the Library folder on Mac). It solved all the issues I was having with user slowness/crashing.

Office 2016 never got better so we're back on 2011 and all is well
