Hi,

Is there a way to stop users accessing websites by their IP addres in both IE and chrome?

Have a few websites that some students are getting round the LEAs filter by typing in the ip address rather than the URL.

In Smoothwall, if you create a new web filter policy in "Guardian - Web filter - Policy wizard" or amend an existing block policy, in the "What" section if you look for "ip" you should find "All URLs containing an IP" and "All HTTPS URLs containing an IP". Including these should help.

by default our policy blocks anything that is "host is an IP" so even if they tried to visit by IP it would be blocked.

County filtering - Netsweeper.

Would like to get smoothwall. But after the necessaries ive only got £300 software budget left :(

Tried to get something like pfsense working but its a nightmare with their filter.

This is something that should be raised with the LEA if their solution isn't adequate, could fall under safeguarding that usually scares them. ;)
