New expansion coming out soon. There will be two tiers, a free update to the game and some paid features. These contain functionality that is not available in the base game and has been added in response to player feedback (Paradox are rather keen on keeping functionality in mods where they can and add new stuff in expansions for modders to play with). Pre-release streaming is on Twitch at the moment!

Free update to the base game:

- Day/Night Cycle of ~30mins that can be enabled/disabled in options.

- Reduced Traffic and Power Consumption at night.

- Night-time graphics including street lamps (colour varies by road type) and dynamic lighting.

- Solar plants cease functioning at night.

- Different night and day budgets.

- Riverside and Coast increases land value.

Paid features:

- New crime and punishment system. Police arrest criminals and take them to jail. Upgrade to a prison to reform offenders and prevent re-offending.

- Night-time economy. New parks and district types to serve night-time punters and tourists, effectively splitting your game into two.

- Public transport infrastructure improvements. City Bus Stations and Rail Stations holding multiple stops.

- Water-based entertainment infrastructure (piers, etc).

- New transport types, Taxis. Build a depot for taxis and stands to marshal them near busy places.

- International Airport. Bigger and includes a Metro station built in.

- New Cargo Terminal that includes boat, road and rail.

I need to give this game another chance - I had SimCity first and really liked it, except for a few frustrating glitches. So I tried Cities Skyline after hearing the hype and just didn't get into it. Maybe that's because I was used to the layout of SimCity? I'll have to have another go perhaps. Any tips?

Read up on traffic management and zoning as it really helps your city flow. Plan ahead, don't rush and take your time. Build gradually and add services as you go.

Example, if you build a long arterial road from your highway but have local roads dotted along it with a massive residential zone laid down at once and your deathcare services in the corner of the map on a dirt road, you will get hit by lots of people dying at once (fixed lifespans) and your hearses get stuck in traffic causing the buildings to become abandoned. But if you add roads to collect traffic from arterials to the neighbourhood, stagger the timing of your zoning and mingle crematoriums amongst the neighbourhood you will get smaller deathwaves, less traffic and quicker responses from the undertakers.

I was on this soooo long last night. >.<

Also pick up the two elevated train stations on the Workshop, they completely change how you plan and build railways in the game.
