GPP Printer Mapping Inconsistent login times

We've recently moved to a print server solution rather than direct ip printing and having a few issues with speed of logins now.

Print server is 2012 r2 with windows 7 clients.

 

A typical profile takes between 15 and 25 seconds to login.

Having set the printer in a group policy preference logins seems to inconsistently take between 2 and 7 minutes to login, especially when it suites are logging on, just stays on the 'welcome' screen for ages.

 

in the preferences I have it set to remove all shared printers first, then map the printer for the location.

 

I am assigning the printer to computer groups using loopback processing, as I want specific printers to appear depending on computer location and not user.

 

Also use roaming profiles so don't want them carrying printers from other areas they may have logged on in.

 

Anyone else experienced this and know of a solution to get our login times back down to what they were before.

 

Appreciated if anyone has a similar setup and can help.

Mapping printers using GPP can be a little flakey and can also increase logging on times, which is why it's best using a script to map your printers.

Do you have a script or sample I could work from?

 

My AD setup is certain computers are in Named OU's depending on which printer to assign. i.e Admin - Admin & Follow-Me, A Block - A Block & Follow-Me, Student Computers - follow-Me

This is where I developed my printer script from. It worked like a charm when we had XP and it still works like a charm using 7.
