[sims] Detention Attendance

AFAIK there is no way of staff who are supervising a detention, to quickly see on their detention session if a pupil is absent?

 

My point is, if a pupil has been added to a detention for a day where he is then absent, we want the staff to remove the student from the detention, then add them to another.

 

Is there a quick way for them to see if they're absent in order to do this? There AM/PM mark on the detention screen would be useful

I may be wrong, or have out of date info, but I think that in regular registers if the student has a detention on that day, there is a D or a red dot...?

This should perhaps trigger the form tutor or first attendance taker to trigger an action.

That's the workaround I'd use if there was no way for the detention superviser to see easily.

See if anyone else comes up with anything.

Yes there's a red D for a DT and R for Report.

 

However this issue is around the DT register itself. If a pupil is put into a DT for next Monday, and then they are absent on that day, their name still appears in the DT register. The DT supervisor has no (quick) way of knowing if they are absent from the DT, or absent from school. Simply adding the AM/PM mark to the DT register would resolve this very easily.

So if it's not easily accessible, your only recourse is to log a change request and then find a workaround.

That's why i was thinking you may have to shift the onus on to a pastoral leader e.g. form tutor to catch the fact they are absent and let them know.

Ideally the system would pick up the fact that they are scheduled to be somewhere but are absent and so kick off some workflow, but I don't know of any system that does that. The closest might have been Aspen

Indeed - I think there was a desire to see if anyone encountered this issue and had a sensible workaround - catching the absences early in the day and changing the DT date is useful but still involves cross referencing with the DTs, of which there are several a day...

 

Change request seems a sensible idea!

I agree it's annoying to have to do a workaround, but rather than rely on form tutors to notice, then action, absent students with detention I would get the office to run a report to pull up a list, move the detention of any affected student, then print the updated detention list.

Not a fix but a workaround maybe, they could use the Quick Search function? It would be the quickest way for them to find out if they were absent or not.

 

Type in the name, hit enter and then hover over the little dot thingy.
