A place to discuss, commiserate and/or enjoy the forthcoming tournament whether watching on TV or at a match.

Me, I am registered as a Wales supporter and dead excited to have tickets to the opening match on Friday (England v Fiji - Mr gee40 is English), England v Wales for the first time ever... and better still a trip to the Millennium Stadium (another first) to see Wales v Fiji.

I am looking forward to the weeks ahead :) :)

will be following Ireland as always but keen to see some of the smaller teams and how they are progressing. No plans to go to any games sadly but will catch what I can on the box.

I've just uploaded to YouTube an old 1938/9 BBC recording of my Gt Aunt singing a song England fans will know......

I'm off to see Canada v Romania in Leicester (because it was close & cheap) and England v Uruguay in Manchester. Which'll actually be my first time getting to any live rugby match, so all very exciting :D

What do people think of Lancaster's first team? I personally find it difficult to believe that "there was no room for Cipriani" when they made space for Richard Wigglesworth...

I also think that they should have suspended the rules about English players abroad for this one tournament, so we could have had Armitage and Abendanon in - y'know, the past two European Players of the Year. I get the logic about supporting the home league, but I think winning a World Cup on home soil would do much more for domestic rugby, and for this one tournament we should be pulling in every player we can.

Not the best performance by England, but they did the job, just. Didn't think they'd get the bonus point but nice work at the end

Agreed. Too many TMO referrals as well. Referee came over as indecisive

Yep, absolutely terrible with that Fiji try, no way he should be able to disallow the try after already awarding it.

I realised last night how much I hate ITV commentary and coverage compared to BBC, the adverts are a PITA and I wondered for the first 50 minutes of the game who were playing England as they were seldom mentioned (at least the BBC try and keep it quite neutral), some of the commentary bordered on ridiculous and quite funny as well, the team checking from every angle if Mike Brown got his finger tips to a ball to stop the Matawala try made me laugh at the rabid fanaticism of their support, like they were willing the fingertips onwards.

England to me seemed very nervy playing it with the world watching them, defence was a bit loose at times as well, Tom Youngs was like a little cannonball going forward at the front of the pack, Mike Brown played very well, though I do think England would have won in the end of the game regardless, Fiji were flagging in the last 20 minutes that was clear (I know we are old enemy here and its a scary fortnight ahead :))

I think Fiji were quite hard done by with that Referee, Manolo seemed a bit of a beast in fairness, though I think the offside call for the initial penalty try was questionable and even the commentating team couldn't highlight well why it was called that way, the ref had a proper nightmare on his world cup debut there.

Fiji were awarded the Matawala try and it should have stood regardless as it was awarded first, end of, no TMO should have been called after it as it was awarded and they were getting set for the conversion, even Clive Woodward and Wilkinson agreed that much at half time it was clear when its awarded it is a try. As Wilkinson rightly said, What next, call a game and then adjust scores after the match with legal challenges after the TMO adjudication ? It wouldn't have changed the outcome in anyway just felt that they were hard done by there.

Even the crowd at the game agreed with you. English fans were booing at reversing the decision on that try.

It was a very multinational crowd. We travelled there by train and had the company of several inebriated French fans who sang the Marseillaise at full volume a few times and then moved on to "Ireland, Ireland". This was followed by a discussion in French followed by the question to anyone who was listening "What ees Eengleesh?"... they immediately started to sing "Singing in the rain"

We saw a few parties of Japanese fans obediently following their tour guide's flag... which seemed a bit surreal among the happy drunks of the rest of the nations. Also a party of Swiss (judging by their shirts). The atmosphere on public transport was very much like the Olympics with everyone talking to everyone else. Sadly a man fell off the platform at Twickenham station last night, so I guess there will be longer queues after future ganes.

OMFG Japan have beaten the Springboks!!!!!! What a game, well deserved!

I have a South African friend and former colleague who was at the match. I saw him yesterday and we swapped some friendly banter about South Africa and Ireland. He was confident of his team's chances today (as you would expect) I wonder what he will say next time we speak...

My in-laws are staying with us this evening and aren't into rugby at all normally. However when I explained the situation part way through the first half they started rooting for Japan. By the end of the match, the whole house was in uproar with excitement as Japan pressed for the win.

A great afternoon was had by all!

France v Italy had the potential to be brilliant or, as it turned out, a penalty match. Discipline sadly lacking , especially for the Italians.

The ref had a better match than yesterday's one at the England game, but ANOTHER reversed try decision with TMO!

Anyone who has watched rugby will have seen officials aw

the TMO needs to be sorted out now and quick I think, I noticed that the games are taking a long time now because of the replaying of in game incidents, the assistant referees should be enough there and citing if need be later for unpunished stuff in game, it also needs to be clarified that what a ref awards cannot be rescinded once awarded I think, if theres any doubt about tries being scored use the TMO first not after the awarding.

Well done Wales!

Also well done GB Davis Cup Tennis Team - through to final thanks to Andy Murray.

Refereeing much better for NZ v Argentina match. It's a shame NZ didn't seem to play properly until half way through the second half. The better team won, but Argentina put up a good fight

The ABs weren't playing well for the entire game IMHO, and they got VERY sloppy towards the end. Lots of unnecessary and highly risky offloads. Glad they won tho.

Yep, good job Wales, although their injury list is a bit worrying.

As for the Davis cup, superb performance, don't forget the brilliant job Jamie Murray did in the doubles ;-)

I'm not forgetting Jamie. It's a shame, Belgium beat Argentina in the other semi. We could have had home advantage in the final too.
