Toshiba Universal Printer 2 Driver - Random Problems

Recommended Posts

Since moving over to managed print, we have been having a little niggle with the Toshiba Universal Printer 2 Driver on some client machines. Every now and then the driver will not come down to the client machines so we have to run a little patch from MS fix50979 which i think does something with the print spooler. Its not on the same machine all the time but we need to keep applying this little patch on machines and its becoming a little frustrating, especially when a user rings and says they cannot print.

I was wondering if anyone knows of a permanent fix for this?

I has this and what i do is have script run on startup that removes printers then reinstallls them.

I did it this way so i tell staff to reboot and the printers are fixed.

Tosh mfds it happens on whatever driver i use.

When you goto the print properties of a machine that does not print do you get a basic properies page instead of the proper printer settings.

Yeah thats right, thats how we usually tell. We have a script that runs at log off that remove the printers and then at log on it connects them again. We were told the driver is so big that this is why it happens.

There is known issues with Toshiba drivers on Windows 7 and 10 I believe it is. The Universal 2 one appears to be the bigger problem, I am just waiting on clarification and will send a link to one that is more stable. What model Toshiba MFD are you using?

We use virtual print queues which redirect to a few a different Toshiba devices, 2505, 3505 and 7506's , all was fine before we upgraded all the printers and hence updating the driver from Toshiba Universal to Toshiba Universal 2 (v 7.176.3851.6), we have been using a powershell script which does the same as the MS Fixit to reset the Print Spooler and it seems to fix them but whether it happens again in the future only time will tell.

I have had more success using the Universal PS3 driver, which can be found here.

It seems to behave better than the Universal 2 one.

Will try the Universal 3 one over the weekend and see what happens, our problem only happens once in a blue moon.

I'm still having some issues with Toshiba using the universal PS3. Both screenshots are the same driver, top is what it should be like, bottom is when it goes belly up. Anyone seen a driver so this before?
