matt40k Posted September 9, 2015 Posted September 9, 2015 Interesting they gave it a keyboard and pen to try and get business involved and it isnt a i5, which is odd, are they saying all the enterprise legacy apps are gone (and web based) and they're just missing a keyboard?? Still then it'll be a macbook... Yer, odd.

Why would the addition of a keyboard and pen require an i5? Yeah, I can't say instantly making the vast library of iOS apps incompatible would have been a great marketing move. It's an iPad, not a MacBook without a keyboard. That said I can't see many uses where you'd pick this over a 9.7" iPad, especially as it starts at a whopping $300 more.

Its not like they've gone, ooo, this hasnt worked, lets go back a step whilst we finger it out. If they are doing it for enterprise folks who need a pen in their hand to function or run an app that needs a keyboard, chances are the Apple SoC wont be beefy enough to run it or be able to support the legacy that are designed for x86 cpu. I get it for microsoft - they are the half way point of legacy and innovation, but Apple doesnt have that legacy requirement, they aint chained down. Just odd, its like a first stab at breaking Job rule about no touch screens on a macbook/imac

Because there's lots of money to be made both from the accessories themselves and the apps that take advantage of them. Companies such as Logitech and FiftyThree have proven there is demand for keyboards and pens for iPads. The fact that hybrid devices like Microsoft's Surface 3/Pro 3 are growing in popularity while sales of iPads (and tablets in general) are declining must have played a part in it too. If they are doing it for enterprise folks who need a pen in their hand to function or run an app that needs a keyboard, chances are the Apple SoC won't be beefy enough to run it I'm still not seeing the correlation between enterprise apps, pens/keyboards and the speed of the SoC. Apple's partnership with IBM proves that enterprise-class apps run just fine on current iOS devices. Android smartphones such as the Galaxy Note 5 have styluses and don't need superfast (Intel Core i3/i5) processors. Why would Apple's iPad Pro be any different? Just odd, it's like a first stab at breaking Job rule about no touch screens on a macbook/imac Macs don't need touchscreens because they have trackpads that actually work well (unlike the vast majority of Windows laptops). If you want touch on an iMac, Mac mini or Mac Pro you simply buy a Magic Trackpad for £59 and use the same or similar gestures you are used to on iPads on the trackpad rather than directly on the screen. The benefits to Apple are obvious. They don't need to redesign the OS X UI or add expensive touchscreens which would decrease battery life on MacBooks, increase the weight and thickness of the Mac and either eat into Apple's massive profit margins or force them to increase prices. Just imagine how much a 5K touchscreen for a 27" iMac would cost. From the user's point of view, their arms won't ache and the screen won't get covered in greasy fingerprints.

Still then it'll be a macbook... Yer, odd. Sorry but are you serious about Apple now "trying" to attract business enterprises with a keyboard and pen? They won over enterprise a long time ago with iOS not long after the first iPad shipped, major healthcare, major highstreet banks and large retailers have all embraced iOS mobile devices..?

Even some who are, it still isnt as mainstream, they are still buying desktops or laptops. I still see more laptops/surfaces than ipads/tablets on the train to london
