Papercut, Airprint, Vlans

Yep, I put those 3 words together,

 

With ipads being used more and more, Both staff and students, how do you get printers?

 

Our wireless is on a vlan and our printers are spread out over different vlans. (also our printer server is on vlan1)

 

How do you guys print from them?

Have a PaperCut Mac server running that can see the printers but have the server on the same VLAN as the iDevices so it can broadcast to them using the bonjour protocol and away you go.

Ok. Would I have to move the macs over to the same address as well.

 

We have 15macs in music on vlan6 and ipads on wireless (vlan8)?

 

Guess you install the secondly PaperCut server on the mac?

Not 100% depends on how you deploy your printer, I am not a Mac expert from that point of view.

 

Re the install, you run the dmg and input the IP of your Windows server, you install the print queues for the printers you are printing to and configure any queues if you are using follow me print as you have to "load balance" for this to work. You may need for your printers to be postscript enabled for it to work 100% but again not 100% on that point.

 

Any question feel free to ask, done a few setups on flat networks so can get the basics sorted.
