RLR Posted September 9, 2015 Posted September 9, 2015 A new update came out today in the Apple App store for an update on the Sims Teacher app. A few of our staff have already updated and it is asking to re-associate their device with a new code. This means we're deleting their device and re-adding to get a new code. We only set these users (100 of them) up last week and now we're going to have to do it again? Is anyone else getting this?
PhilNeal Posted September 9, 2015 Posted September 9, 2015 The release note that covers this problem. There is a device association for security purposes which uses the iPad ID. We have found however that the iPAD ID changes with upgrades of iOS hence the re-registering because the ID has changed. We have altered the security method to avoid this problem in the future. If this problem is related as you suggest to the Teacher App upgrade please speak to our desk as we aren't aware of this.
GREED Posted September 10, 2015 Posted September 10, 2015 (edited) To which ID are you referring? UDID that is no longer usable by one third party, or the IDFV which changes very rarely? Edited September 10, 2015 by GREED correction
dnanton1 Posted September 10, 2015 Posted September 10, 2015 Had the same problem today with lots of staff. Just tested it myself and the app worked fine until I ran the update from the App Store. Now it has lost its association code so it is definitely linked to the app upgrade. I haven't upgraded the IOS.
Nosirra Posted September 10, 2015 Posted September 10, 2015 Experienced this issue previously about 5 minutes before delivering training to the entire SLT. Help desk assured me repeatedly that no force in heaven or on earth can cause the device to require a new association code and that I must have done something wrong. Oops
RLR Posted September 10, 2015 Author Posted September 10, 2015 We spoke to capita this morning and by the afternoon they had confirmed that the update has caused this issue and it was not intentional. They said some users are affected but all ours have been affected so I think they're ytrying to make out that it's not as bad as it seems. Very frustrating for us as we only did the device association last week. Let's hope it doesn't happen again.
PhilNeal Posted September 15, 2015 Posted September 15, 2015 I checked this out with the team yesterday and it is as I described. When iOS upgrades it alters the machine ID. Apple accept that it shouldn't but are not planning a fix. We've altered how we associate the machine with our server to avoid future occurrences. We appreciate that is is a real pain - sorry.
GREED Posted September 15, 2015 Posted September 15, 2015 According to published material, the machine ID or UDID (if this is your meaning) is no longer accessible to non-Apple software. This is/was due to privacy concerns (mostly in the US). Most now use the IDFV (ID For Vendors).
