Sheridan Posted September 9, 2015 Posted September 9, 2015 Installed Windows 10 on Surface Pro 3, with MS driver package. Wifi doesn't work. If MS can't get their OS working on their own hardware its not looking good! Has anyone managed to get Windows 7 working on a SP3?

Sagima Posted September 9, 2015 Posted September 9, 2015 Installed win10 on an sp3 on monday - no problems whatsoever. The user is thrilled to be shot of win8.1. Most of our sp3 people use solidworks which apparently doesn't like w10 so we won't be seeing much of it here for a while. Also installed win10 on a surface 3 which wasn't as easy - device manager looked like it hadn't manage to install anything. I ended up slipstreaming drivers into the wim using some program as i lack a usb hub and it was too frustrating to attempt without the keyboard or stouchcreen working and only one usb. Couldn't get the enterprise mak keys to work though.
abillybob Posted September 9, 2015 Posted September 9, 2015 Not sure about the Pro variant but my Surface 3 updated fine to Windows 10. The mistake I made was doing a fresh image straight to Windows 10, after talking to Microsoft support you need to install the updates in sequence from Windows 8.1 so you can get the firmware update otherwise Windows 10 will encounter issues! If drivers are a problem you can download and install all the drivers for the device in one nifty package from the Surface website.

I may as well try 8.1 as there's hardly any difference between 10 and 8.1 anyway. Shame it doesn't look like 7 will go on, that would have been a working solution.

Win 10 on the Surface really is worth it. You should also note that if you have updated to Win 10 and tried to apply the Win 8.1 to Win 10 firmware as an update it appears to go on but in reality does not.
snagrat Posted September 9, 2015 Posted September 9, 2015 We've just rolled out Win10 to nearly 200 Surfaces, mixed of Pro 2, 3 and Pro 3 and had no issue with drivers at all. All built from SCCM with the Driver Packs from MS downloads

Just wondering if your experiencing the same kind of issue. I have also found that under device manager I have two items with a caution sign by them both of which have the same error code and problem. Would you mind just checking your device manager to see if it's them same? ~~ 1
Sheridan Posted September 11, 2015 Author Posted September 11, 2015 We've decided to ditch these surfaces - one of the big requirements was to use the cameras. But with Windows 8 and 10, the camera doesn't work for network users who aren't domain admins. We configured the Start layout using group policy and the camera either a) doesn't appear at all or b) appears but clicking it does nothing. Not impressed with these to be honest, I can see why ipads are outselling surfaces massively if you can't get a basic function working.

The only problem (annoyance?) I have is the time it takes to connect to a wireless network after coming out of hibernation/sleep. It always seems to see the neighbours before mine! 1
