One of our teachers has left and returned her iPad, and hadn’t wiped her iPad, but left her code, so I’ve wiped it with the restore thing, but when it’s booting back up it’s asking to activate the iPad with the original iTunes account.

However, nothing is working… The account was created with an incorrect email address, which has since been changed, but nothing works to activate it. We've had that teacher back in to help get it sorted, but no joy...

I've contact my usual iPad supplier, but wanted to ask here too - is there any way of forcing a full factory reset or have I got a very expensive paperweight now?

Is that possible from the stage I'm at? I don't do Apple, so not got a clue about Jailbreaking... Is it possible to jailbreak it, wipe it, then "unjailbreak"? it to get it back to normal?

Apple can unlock it if you can provide them with the original proof of purchase. Had several done by them in my previous job.

I'm hoping that's what the original supplier will say too - to save asking the BM for the invoice to see if it's listed...

Any time that I have come across this I have forced it into recovery mode and then restored using iTunes. Should return to the state that it came out of the box.

Here are the instructions from the Apple site.

Restore using recovery mode

If you've never synced with iTunes or set up Find My iPhone in iCloud, you'll need to use recovery mode to restore your device. This will erase the device and its passcode.

Connect your iOS device to your computer and open iTunes. If you don't have a computer, borrow one from a friend, or go to an Apple Retail Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider.

While your device is connected, force restart it: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. Don't let go when you see the Apple logo — keep holding until you see the recovery mode screen.

When you see the option to Restore or Update, choose Restore.

iTunes will download software for your device. If it takes more than 15 minutes, your device will exit recovery mode and you'll need to repeat steps 2 and 3.

Wait for the process to finish. Then you can set up and use your device.

Recovery Mode screen should look similar to this ...

Hope that this might help.

After reading again I think this is what you have already tried, so may not work.

Yep, we contact apple.

They send you a form to fill in and return with proof of purchase.

What happens when you return the form & proof of purchase?

I spoke to Apple yesterday and they said I need to physically go to an Apple Store with the proof of purchase... I'd rather not have to wait to get to a store...

I do a 'forgot my password' on iforgot.com.

Forward the old users email to mine, hit the link, then do a 'wipe my ipad' from icloud.

I did it recently... I'm sure thats how I did it.

That won't work if the email address is either wrong or a personal address.

Rich - sorry for not replying - you just email/fax the forms back and they unlock it on the server, so you can then retry it and it works. No need for Apple Store.

I've not had the invoice as PoP yet, don't suppose you've got that form to hand that you could email me? I'm gonna try editing a different one to send...

Where do you send you 'pads for repair? I've sent a few to Foneangels.co.uk but they took forever.

Looking for someone reliable and cheap.

I use MCC - they used to be an authorised repair centre (or whatever the correct term is), but aren't any longer, so can repair them cheaper now! :)

My contact is James Keir [email protected]
