[sims] Exporting reports into Excel

We are having problems exporting into Excel 2013. Not sure if its SIMS problem or Excel but when you export Excel tries to open but sits at the green splash screen with "processing" in the bottom left and never actually opens. You have to kill the process to get out of it.

 

Any ideas?

What are your excel macro security settings at?

 

Trying lowering them to medium if they are higher - it will then ask for confirmation when opening files with macros in

@rad - If in SIMS you go to Reports>Timetables>Periods Timetable - select Periods (any will do)

When the Period Timetable is shown then you click on "Export" and select Output Options "Open" and use the drop down to select "Excel". Click "ok". This is where Excel will attempt to open but stay at the splash screen with "Processing" showing. If I open Excel first then do this process it seems to open fine but with the following error

I've had this issue, tracked it down to smart ink plugin in excel. Got rid of that on the computer and now works fine. (Luckly computer wasn't attached to a board)

@Reverend_Dan - I was off for a day but back now and just tried disabling Smart ink plugin in Excel. All working now!!

I hate smart ink!!!!! Does this apply to all versions of Smart Ink. I think we are on version 2.0

No idea, I did have a few issues with some classroom pc's and this plugin when we upgraded to office 2013 with the plugin already installed in office 2010, had to do a uninstall of 2010 a repair on 2013 and a reinstall of smartboard

I quite often get a similar message with various programs as they are still using the old format of Excel. Sometimes it doesn't pop up and it looks like the program has crashed. There isn't even a flashing icon at the bottom task bar. The only way i can find it is to do an Alt+Tab, or minimize to desktop and then click on Excel.

Weird, but worth bearing in mind.

 

I've also noticed recently that when a new Excel file is created it doesn't auto pop onto the screen like it used to, but it's not flashing either, i have to find it and click on it.
