My daughters birthday is coming up and we she wants a phone. We've been puttign this off for a while now, but have finally agreed. We don't need a octo\quad core super-zippy device, just something which will run ok and take decent pics.

We can get a refurb of the current £100 entry level Android phones for about £50 for the Moto E but thought I'd check here to see if someone may have an older device lying in a drawer somewhere that will fit the bill. I will pay up to £50 (ex p&p) but needs to have the following:

5MP Camera

Android 4.2 or above

8GB Storage or Micro-SD option

GPS + Accelerometer

Ideally between 4"-5" screen with resonable resolution

Unlocked or unlockable

In resonable condition i.e. not bashed around and heavily scratched

Please let me know if you can help out :)

I'm actually quite a fan of Chinese phones and have owned several in the past. The problem I have (not that it is just above the limit I have set for one) is that would I feel OK giving this to an 11 year old who will take it to a playground?

But, then again, it is still (sort of) in the price bracket we have set anbd it is a very good spec.

We've been looking at the Sainsburys refurbished phones section which gets some quite good (and warrantied) phones in each day, but none for the price quite as nice as that one.

And yes, it needs to be Android for the games and apps although once developers start to port their apps over to Win 10 mobile things will, I suspect, pick up for Micropsoft based handsets, but they aren't there just yet.

Decisions, decisions......

The Doogee (NOT pronounced 'dodgy' BTW!) arrived yesterday and set it up for my daughter. A very nice phone which is plenty nippy.

Cost about £65 with customs and fast shipping (3 days DHL). Certainly a lot better spec than you'll get over here for the money :)

Got it from here: DOOGEE Y100X NOVA 5.0inch IPS HD Android 5.0 MTK6582 Smartphone

I paid £51 for the phone (IIRC it was on a flash sale), but be warned the prices do change almost daily and it's currently listed at £56.
