Hi, can anyone help as to why we have no touch facility in you 4065 board?

 

We have plugged in the 5m usb cable and windows 7 sees it, installs driver accordingly, device manager reports it as a "Microsoft input configuration device". Smart settings show it as connected below in attached image, so not sure why we get no touch??

 

We have also tried different use cables and also another PC but no touch....

Hi,

 

I feel your frustration! I've had somthing similar a few times, restarting the PC and the panel has worked for me but I'm guessing thats not working in this case. It's also not good having to restart everything when it happens mid lesson.

 

It seems that quite a few people are having problems with the SMART 4065 panels. Hve you seen this post?

Have you tried the SMART driver pack? We found that we had massive issues until we installed the driver pack, even though we were only 1 version of SMART Notebook behind. Often would look as though everything was fine but it would be erratic, or work sometimes and not others.

Could you share how you sorted it out as I'm having similar issues with one in our school and nothing has worked 100% yet - just when we think its OK, the issue re-appears. Thanks.

Ok I will try to remember when I get to the connected PC. But off the top of my head, it won't work unless you have enabled Windows tablet PC support as the display uses Windows own touch drivers. But I will try to confirm this week for you [emoji106]🏻

I'm having similar issues but have found that going right back and re-installing SMART Notebook (we're going from version 15.2 to 16) works best.

My process..

After un-installing Notebook I've been installing Windows updates KB2670838 and KB3033929

Ensuring IE 11 is installed

Install Notebook using file 'smartesi2016aprweb2'

 

Once all this is done I've found connecting the machine to the board, then switching on the board and then re-booting the machine has worked best. It does seem to take a long time for the INK and interactivity to install though.

I was just connecting an already booted machine to the SMARTboard, but the interactivity would still play up, even after disconnecting and re-connecting the USB cable. I was also finding I would have to do a few re-boots before everything was running as expected.

 

I've also ditched the 5m USB cable and using 1m instead.

Sorry but I dont have any info other than make sure the Tablet PC Input Service is running then we install SMART Notebook v15.

Still getting issues, now with 16.1. Am trying hibernating machines as opposed to shut down to see if this fixes. It seems to me that SMART Ink gets 'dropped' somehow or just switches off at random!??

 

I fixed an interactive issue yesterday, with the teacher there so that they couldn't accuse me of not getting it to work, then this morning (when I'm at another school) the screen is not interactive again!!

I can't get the smartboard to respond to touch. Everytime I touch the screen it just keeps making the 'usb connected windows noise'. Any ideas?

What version of SMART software are you using? When we got some 4065 about 18 months ago I used the latest version of SMART. I was told to roll back to an older version of SMART which worked.

I've tried a few from 11 to 16.2. How old was the software you've used?

Just checked and the installer I have seems to be 11.4. Have you fully removed the newer version before installing an older version? You could try copying the drivers from a PC that uses SMART (doesn't have to be 4065 connected) and then uninstall the device on the PC making the USB connected sound and offer the PC the drivers from the other PC. You'd have to fully remove the drivers from the affected PC first so that it doesn't just see those drivers and use them again.

Yes I fully removed any previous version from control panel (drivers included). I would get smartboard not detected errors with the old software but it still seemed to work with the issues mentioned. New software gets rid of the smartboard not detected error in smart settings but touch is not responsive. The green light on the board is also off.

How did you remove the drivers? From the SMART uninstaller or through the Device Manager? I think it would better clean up the driver situation if you uninstalled the SMART device from Device Manager, telling Windows to remove the drivers there, AND then ran the SMART uninstaller from the Control Panel. This should stop Windows archiving drivers that might be newer than the ones you're trying to install.

Cool. I also wondered if you'd tried using either a different USB cable OR plugging the USB cable in another port. When I have an issue I'm finding it hard to resolve I think of what variables there are and then change one at a time to narrow down the list of suspects as it were. It also means that when I ring my school's ICT support people I know I've already eliminated most of the suggestions I'll be asked to check which a) means they know I've already tried to fix it and I'm not ringing up at the first sign of trouble and b) they then actually have to think about a proper solution!

Have you thought about contacting SMART themselves and sending them that?

 

And did you try removing the SMART device from Device Manager and removing its drivers there?
