Does anyone know anything about the position or the school?

I think this is the second time this job has been advertised.

Yes, I went there as student and live 5 minutes away.

 

They appointed new Network Manager about 3 years ago - I obtained the pack but didn't apply as I was/am very happy where I am.

 

I spoke to a friend who is on IT leadership there, who advised me that I'd be better not applying there. The person who would be my manager at the time does not see IT as being as important as we here might think.

 

I don't know if staffing or mindset has changed since.

Having said that, they are shortly going through a BSF-style change. Building a whole new school on the playing fields, then knocking old building down.

I've just read the advert; certainly looks more positive than it did three years ago. Didn't realise it was the "Network Manager" job role renamed and with seemingly better control of their destiny.

 

I've pinged an email to my friend to see if she's any insight to offer.

Thanks, it's tempting for me but not at the lower end of the scale with the extra travel costs.

The head is actually my old Assistant Head when I was at school, tempting, but I haven't seen many jobs that blend NW and teaching and learning in full depth.. Might be blurry objectives

I don't know anything of the current head; I'm indirectly acquainted with the former head outside school.

I applied the first time they advertised this role, got an email saying they didn't get a large enough field of candidates. But would carry my application forward for when they re-advertised it again. Its interesting reading your comments about the school I always find it worth while knowing about the background of any school I am applying for.

I was half and half about applying for this the first time too although wrong side of Keighley to make it viable for me. Reading some of the above is certainly eye opening, sounds like they want someone to go along with their plans more than someone who might have a better vision of how things should run!

For the sake of openness/completeness, I just want to clarify that my last contact with them was four years ago; it may or may not be the case any more.

 

My own reading is that with the new building, they want to get it right, so they're getting in an IT Development person to guide them from a fresh start with the new build.

That was how i read it too and that's the part that is peeking my interest.
