Terminal Server profile duplicating with sequential number in C:\Users\ folder ?

Can anyone here please assist me with the troubleshooting method of why some of the AD username in my Terminal Server farm duplicated with numbers at the end of it ?

 

C:\Users\User1.domain

C:\Users\User1.domain.001

C:\Users\User1.domain.002

C:\Users\User1.domain.003

...

C:\Users\User1.domain.028

 

C:\Users\User2.domain

C:\Users\User2.domain.001

C:\Users\User2.domain.002

C:\Users\User2.domain.003

...

C:\Users\User2.domain.021

 

and so on ?

 

This is happening in all of the nodes in the farm and for all user account.

We had a case of this on a single TS Server and unfortunately to cut a long story short we reinstalled it as it was easier and we had planned to upgrade it anyway. I cant remember what we actually found prior to reinstalling it but suspect the server vhd had run out of space and in a attempt to make space by removing old profiles, the default profile had been deleted and/or corrupt.
