Recycling remanufactured toners...?

Apologies if this is in the wrong bit...not sure where I could put it really..

 

What do people on here tend to do with old expired toner carts? We only seem to be able to find companies that will take the OEM ones...we use compatibles and remanufactured ones, figuring it's good for whatnot.

 

However, when it comes to end of life..we're a bit stuck short of lobbing them in the bin..which seems incredibly wasteful..

ours are piled up in our room getting in the way. I have sent off for some boxes so they can be recycled but no sign yet!

 

Can't remember where i'm getting the boxes. If you google schools recycling toners then you will probably find the web page!

We use a company called lasertech. They give you credit to buy new or compatibles from them too.

You need to check with your dry waste removal company to see if you can put toner cartridges in those bins.

Biffa do a hazardous waste box which you can fill up.

 

Recycling4you.co.uk will pick them up and turn them into plastic wood.

 

You have to pay for that service.

I'll 2nd lasertech. We've used them for years and the guy who deals with us (he has recently just bought the franchise but equally as good as the last) will always endeavour to be the next day at the latest, but occasionally can come same day (if 1 or 2 carts required desperately) if notified in the morning, so very reliable.

 

Their own branded consumables are just as good as a brother or HP branded ones for example, and especially in the case of the toners are far cheaper, plus every cartridge they supply can be exchanged for a credit allowance, again useable to buy more. We haven't had much luck with their epson compatible cartridges, but certainly their HP and Brother we tend to go to their own brand now.

 

When we get too many, we let him know, he comes and takes the lot away (although is reluctant to take 3rd party refilled ones, naturally, which we don't usually get now), and in the case of some toners can be a few pound each. Most of the older HP inkjet cartridges can't be reused it seems, so we just end up binning these, but at least we recycle 90% of what gets used.

Can I resurrect this one, as we've just started buying compatible and/or remanufactured cartridges and are looking for a way to dispose of them responsibly - either for money or charity donation (we would likely give the money to charity anyway)

I check with the company that delivers me new toner, as if they won't take the old ones away when I've finished with them, I won't buy from them.

 

They don't necessarily give any cashback/rebate on the toner they take away, but as long as it doesn't get left lying around in our store rooms.

 

Our PTA used to do a collection of old ink/toner, but they must have stopped, as now I get a few people coming in "donating" them to me... which I'm really happy about....

We use greensource and have been for a number of years now, so far we have raised over 4k for action aid

 

Once we have a large amount of empty toners we drop them a email and they come and collect

According to Greensource's web site, they only take OEM ones.

we send them everything we have, oem and compatibles, never been an issue

I use greensource and they will take OEMs from anywhere but if you are a greensource customer they will take back everything they sell you including there re manufactured stuff (and if you have the odd non-greensource one it will probably slip in fine)
