Raspberry PI windows 10 and powerpoint?

Hi all,

 

before i look at buying and testing this - does anyone know if a raspberry PI2 with windows 10 IOT will run a powerpoint presentation (don't care about editing, just playback).

Windows 10 for the Raspberry Pi is nothing like the Windows you are used to. There is no shell or desktop. It's mainly designed for remotely controlling things attached to the GPIO (General Purpose Input / Output). You need to build any interfaces yourself. I have a write up on my blog.

 

You would be better off using LibreOffice Impress on Raspbian for displaying PowerPoint decks. If you only care about playback you can export to PDF as there is lots of software to display them.

Windows 10 is coming to the Raspberry Pi 2

You can get it free for the Maker community through the Windows Developer Program for IoT coming later this year.

 

Last year Microsoft announced the Windows Developer Program for IoT and put Windows on the Intel Galileo board.

 

 

This means you could theoretically have a Surface Pro 3 running a Universal App. Then a Windows Phone also running that same Universal App. And finally a Raspberry Pi 2 (note there's no shell) also running a Universal App. I could make my little Raspberry Pi 2 a dedicated device that runs Windows 10 plus my App.

It's pretty clear that the way to go with Windows 10 from a developer's perspective is Universal Apps. You get a great development experience, good API coverage, tooling that makes cross-compilation easy, and now you can go from Raspberry Pi 2, to Phones, Tablets, Xbox one, the cloud and beyond.

We have one of these powering a PowerPoint one a display screen in our Arts department. They use it to display kids work, and play their music compositions in the background. Had it up and running a few weeks now and it has a thumbs up from the Art dept.

yeah it would have been ideal - but they axed the project.... typical.

if you work for MS - then you need to slow down as your not portraying them in a good light

 

The question is about running a powerpoint using the Win10 version on a Pi 2.

 

I think the answer is no - it won't do that but I may be mistaken.

 

What is your answer.

I don't know about Win10 but Pi2 Raspbian runs Libre Office so as long as your powerpoint works in that then you could just use standard rapsbian
