Windows 10 Education Upgrade - Official Reaponse

Just had official confirmation from Microsoft, they thought you could upgrade from previous Enterprise version to Education but you can't.

Hi Andy,

 

So I have managed to reproduce the problem in my Azure lab, I have kicked off a discussion on our internal discussion group, the long and short of it is that the only upgrades that will work currently are: Home/Core or Pro to Education, or Pro to Enterprise (regardless of the version). This isn’t what I thought was the case and clashes with what a lot of us though so will work and try and see if I can clear up our messaging. I’m trying to find out if this is a technical or policy issue but for now I’m afraid it will be a wipe and load.

Thanks, should be enough people there then to hopefully recreate the issue pretty quickly.

 

Original installed OS on the machines I’m testing with is Windows 8.1 Enterprise en-us.

I’ve attached a screenshot of each of the setup languages on the new 8.1 setups to show they are both en-us for Education or Enterprise edition so language version is not the issue here as the machine I am sending this email from has just in-place upgraded from 8.1 Ent en-us to 10 Ent en-us, retained all the apps and is fully working.

Thanks, just threw it out to a room of 60 Win 10 deployment people and its meant to work! Can you check the original media languages on all disks ( You can’t upgrade en-us with en-gb media).

 

I’ll see if I can lab this up later and I’ve also pinged the course leader to see where this might be going wrong.

We all knew this wasn't possible when the feature lists were released (which stated you couldn't do it), I didn't think it needed confirming personally.
