This should maybe go in the "Annoyances" thread but I figured that a separate thread may get a bit more attention.

I am trying to create a Windows 10 image and Quicktime is something I always put in there because deploying it using conventional weaponry is such a PITA. However, when I tried to install Quicktime v7.7.7 on Windows 10, I got an error saying that it need Windows 7 or Vista to install.

So I sighed and shook my head and went to see if I could get around this problem. It turns out that I could.

First of all, open the Quicktime installer. Let it error and leave the installer open when it does. Go to your %temp% folder and look for a folder that was created at the time you ran the installer. There should be four MSI files in there. You will need to copy them to another folder.

Install the AppleApplicationSupport.msi and the AppleSoftwareUpdate.msi. You need the first but the second is very optional. When you go to install the Quicktime.msi, you will need a transform file, please find attached.

windows 10.mst

Download it and put it into the same folder you copied the MSIs to.

If you don't know how to install an MSI with a transform, open a command prompt and change to the folder where your MSIs are. Type the following command:

msiexec /i quicktime.msi TRANSFORMS="windows 10.mst"

The transform file removes the operating system check from the installer so therefore Quicktime will now install.

As far as I can tell, it seems to work but I'm guaranteeing nothing. It could be that Apple have disabled the Quicktime on purpose and you're just letting yourself in for a world of pain, or more even more pain than usual with Quicktime, I don't know.

We had to install it recently as a lot of the teachers programmes still use it!, one to do with the Japanese gamelan ( nothing to do with gaming on lan unfortunately....) and the other a brain storming software

Why on earth would anyone install Quicktime? I know there's some software out there that requires it (and such software is marked incompatible here) but generally curious!

For the same reason we have to install Flash, Shockwave (ugh) and Java: Because there are certain packages we have which depend on one or more of these horrible things and marking it as incompatible because of a personal distaste or not wanting to do the work isn't an option.

I'm assuming and hoping that's nothing recent. There's no personal distaste involved (well there is, but it doesn't come into it); only that I wouldn't let Quicktime on a network the same as I wouldn't let iTunes on one :)

The last bit of quicktime reliant software we had died with CC3 and XP as the software wouldn't run on 7 anyway. I think there's a couple of others but they were clearly not programmed by morons and the .mov files play with anything associated such as VLC.
