[sims] SOLU3 - newbie

I have just had SOLUS3 installed at my place and I was wondering if anyone could give me any advice on what to do with it apart from burn it.

 

Does SOLUS3 allow us to deploy SIMS.net to clients or is it just for updating clients?

 

Does SIMS.net application need to be installed before SOLUS3 can deploy the software?

 

Why is the SOLUS3 client agent red on some machines but blue on others?

 

In SOLUS3, machines keep popping on and off line.

 

I have enabled the firewall ports 52965 & 52966 along with c:\program files\Solus3\agentservice\Sims.Solus3.Agent.UI.exe.

 

There may be a few more questions I will be asking about this really crap software. I'm sure the developers could have made it a little more easier to use!!

Probably firewall policies (Unless you mean local client then might not have latest version deployed yet?)

 

I'd do all these as this is what we were told before at my old place to get it to work fully

 

File and Printer sharing exception > Enabled for *

Prohibit Notification > Enabled

Allow remote administration exception > Enabled for *

Define Port Exceptions > Enabled - Show - Add -

 

52965:TCP:localsubnet:enabled:SOLUS 3 Deployment service

52966:TCP:localsubnet:enabled:SOLUS 3 Agent

135:TCP:localsubnet:enabled:WMI

8739:TCP:localsubnet:enabled:SOLUS 3 Agent UI

Whenever I've encountered this in the schools we support there has been some kind of dns conflict with the affected machines.

 

Ping the hostname and the IP address. Run nslookup on the hostname and the IP address. Anything amiss here will confuse Solus no end.

You did mention a while back you were having some DNS issues. We have had some issues with reverse and forward records not matching since starting at Richmond school. Which has caused a few issues with solus 3. But when working in Durham I never had any issues with it.

Things have started working, it just takes bloody aaaaaggges. DNS and IP addresses were all ok. I *might* have forgotten to add :*:Enabled:Sims.Solus3.Agent.UI to the end of the rule in the GPO.... D'oh. Friday afternoon struggles i guess.
