jmarberg Posted July 29, 2015 Posted July 29, 2015 I am trying to create a new 64bit windows 7 image. I have created my unattend.xml file and everything seems to work fine up until the first boot after setup. First problem is the auto login does not work, i have to enter the password to login as administrator. Then what I notice is it only seems that only parts of my unattend file are being applied. I have a couple of scripts that are supposed to run at first logon that don't. I cant find any errors in any log files and I am banging my head off the desk right now. I have used the same unattend file on 32 bit versions for years without issue. I have even recreated the file from scratch with the same results. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks
GreyFox Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 Hi, This isn't going to be a lot of help, but we're in the process of moving from Windows 7 32bit to 64. I've already sorted out some of my images though, but had some issues with Sysprep. I'd used the same Sysprep setup for ages, but creating a new file (only with 64bit components) would fail at various stages. In the end I turned to Mysysprep2, created a new file and all is great. It even joins my machines to the domain for me. I'm not 100% sure what was doing it before, FOG or Sysprep. So that might be worth looking into? As far as I can tell, all parts of my file are being applied with MySysprep2. Might be worth looking into. The only downside is the Taiwanese flag that appears during the setup process. James
Duke5A Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 (edited) You need to build the answer file in Windows System Image Manager and use the original install media to build the correct catalog. Use this as an example starting point: en-us en-us en-us en-us en-us en-us true Your Org Your Org true true true true true Generic KMS Key goes here %MACHINENAME% domain.com zzzzzzzzzzzz JoinUser domain.com OU=Win7,OU=ComputersWDS,DC=Domain,DC=com en-us en-us en-us en-us en-us zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz false true 1 LocalAdmin true true Work 1 zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz false LocalAdmin Administrators LocalAdmin Eastern Standard Time true 5 C:\Windows\System32\sysprep\ClientSideClonePrepTool.exe Blank HW ID from Symantec Client 1 false cmd /q /c del /Q /F c:\windows\system32\sysprep\Win7ENTx64.xml Delete XML answer file 2 cmd /q /c del /Q /F c:\windows\panther\unattend.xml false Delete XML answer file false 3 "C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\microsoft shared\OfficeSoftwareProtectionPlatform\OSPPREARM.EXE" Rearm Office false 4 Activate Office cscript "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office15\ospp.vbs" /act By default the local admin account is disabled by the mini setup; just create a another local account and use that for your auto logon. This answer file will create computer objects in predefined OU so that freshly imaged machine can get policies that allow lower level tech accounts to install software and whatnot, but this is only if the computer account hasn't been pre staged. If it has then specifying the name to be %MachineName% will cause it to pickup that name and location of the computer object. The commands that run on first logon activate office, delete the sysprep answer file, and strip the unique identity for the crappy antivirus we use. Edited July 30, 2015 by Duke5A
jmarberg Posted July 30, 2015 Author Posted July 30, 2015 That file is almost exactly the same as I have. What I am having trouble with is my administrator account is active and the password works but the autologon is not processed. It will boot up to a wrong password message and go to the administrator login. I can then put in the same password i entered in the unattend file and it logins in and finishes setup. But then i still have issues with first login commands not being run. Some do and some dont. I about to scrap this image and start all over. Might investigate that mysysprep.exe and see how that works.
