Please, someone help me.

If I download 8.1 Pro via VLSC and install this week on W10 launch day it'll upgrade that SKU to Windows 10 Professional. For the minute let's not get bogged down in the bloody licensing. It's a technical, and intellectual exercise.

If I download the final Insider Preview which is pretty much RTM and you can RTM it on launch day the only option they give you in Windows 10 Enterprise.

But MS refuse to give us a launch date for Windows 10 Enterprise, or even a hint when it's coming to VLSC. Even MSDN just seems to have the retail SKUs.

So if I get Insider Enterprise almost RTM, install it, and on launch day they let me slipstream the RTM code with a fancy new product key ... that means I have installed Windows 10 Enterprise. But it's not on the VLSC and no one has any idea when it will be.

Am I missing something huge? Has MS announced when 10 Ent will hit VLSC? Given my MS account I use for Insider is obviously tied to an enterprise can other Insider users download Windows 10 Professional almost RTM and on launch day convert?

This is the single wierdest bloody roll out MS has ever done. All because they killed Technet.

On Gold Disc Day Technet and MSDN got the ISOs to the Gold Disc RTMs of all SKUs with PIDs. You licensed at personal peril.

About half way between Gold Disc Technet/MSDN day Volume Licensing got the Enterprise SKU along with the VLKs/MAKs to start to deploy if required. It worked.

Now I don't have a clue what is going to happen, or what's my best option?

Install Windows 8.1 Pro and on Win 10 launch day upgrade to Win 10 Pro and activate? Download the latest almost Gold Windows 10 Enterprise and hope on launch day I can convert to RTM and activate? Or wait xOx weeks until Windows 10 Enterprise hits VLSC.

Perhaps I'm not following this. I am not well at the moment coming off strong steroids and I cannot follow simple linear operations. Please. Someone. Anyone. Hell Mr Pearce save me! What the hell is going on?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was on 8.1 Ent, wiped to 8.1 pro, reserved my w10 key then I used the RTM to upgrade which kept the 8.1 activation and upgraded to a 10 key (not sent to me but its activated) which will now be linked to my hardware so I can wipe to w10 in theory on the 29th (I think w10 direct activations are disabled right now but it works via the upgrade route)

If you want to use w10 ent you will have to wait for it to appear on VLSC and get a ent key (which I think used to allow 10 activations on different hardware but it could have changed now) then clean install or upgrade w8.1 ent using that disk. You cant upgrade using the RTM currently as its pro/home only and ent isnt out yet as it contains extra features which I dont think is in beta at all.

No eta for ent other then mid August I think.

Hope that helps

The Windows as a service model extends to our enterprise and business customers as well. We’ve announced new servicing benefits, such as Windows Update for Business, and we’re working hard on a range of new features and capabilities for our enterprise customers. Windows 10 Pro will be available on July 29, along with Windows 10 Home. Volume licensing customers will be able to download Windows 10 Enterprise and Windows 10 Education on Volume Licensing Service Center (VLSC) starting on August 1.

Ah! Thank you all. It was hard to find then.

I'll go with my original plan of wiping down from 8.1 Ent to 8.1 Pro today and then reserve.

I'll go back up to Ent at a later date. I only use Ent at home as when the VPN connects our KMS just activates it!
