cookie_monster Posted July 10, 2015 Posted July 10, 2015 Hi all. Yesterday my Note 2 stopped charging, it has been working fine and generally is in good condition. I've tried a different charger and I've turned it off removed the battery and tried again. Is there anything else I can try? This would be typical as I have just signed a new 12 month SIM only contract as I was happy with the phone Thanks all ETA Just in case it is broken, what's the best £200 Android at the moment? I wondered about the Galaxy Alpha.
Duranis Posted July 10, 2015 Posted July 10, 2015 Double check that the pins are not bent/broken/dirty in the USB socket. Also is the battery ok (is it bulging at all, was it losing charge before)? When you turn the phone off and try and charge it does it do anything at all? Trying turning the phone off, remove the battery, plug phone into charger, put battery back in and then turn it on. There is a few things it could be, first thing I would check is the battery (samsung batteries have been known to have issues). Next is the over/under charge sensor needs resetting (doing the above should reset it). Last is the USB port/charging board needs to be replaced. You can pick these up for around £10 and they are dead easy to replace. 1

My wife's old Note 2 wasn't, and it bricked itself, it was quite a well known error, and Samsung fixed it in one of their updates (well, not really, they just stopped the phone writing to that part of memory, I believe). Could just be the battery is old and shot - the Note 2 is a good 2 years old, my kids have my wife and I's old ones, and they barely last a few hours at this point. I played with a gal at work's Alpha, it seems decent enough. I believe the top £200 phone would be the Moto G, it's almost universally raved about. 1

The battery is actually a replacement one as the original crapped out but it's been working fine for months. I'd fogotten about the Moto G it does look good, I'll pop that on the back burner for now

Took battery out plugged in and then put the battery back in and it seems to be charging for the moment.
rich_tech Posted July 10, 2015 Posted July 10, 2015 Dont be afraid to try a different cable too, I have had lots of Samsung devices given to me to look at lately and its been a broken cable for 4 of the 5 of them. Try a diff one that you know works and leave it plugged in if the battery has gone "Super Dead" on it.
difinity Posted July 10, 2015 Posted July 10, 2015 The charging board for the Note 2 is less than a fiver. I know as i bought one for mine when it stopped charging. There are a couple of revisions but the board is marked so it is easy to identify. Avoid the Alpha, my friend has one and it drops calls regularly, apparently a common thing with them. 1

Same phone, battery life has been very poor over the last few days and I've noticed three processes using 21% CPU all the time. "Search applications provider, User dictionary and Contacts storage". I've stopped them and also rebooted the phone but they just come back and hog the CPU again. Thanks. id say try a new cable just incase theres a nick in it - i had a similar issue with my xperia z1 when a process went nuts and over drained the battery.. i had to plug it in in recovery mode for 24 hours to get it to switch on. other than that a new battery would atleast point out the battery as the issue or not but also would waste £ as I'm not even sure if phones will turn on with power and no battery
