I was wondering if anyone has a SIMS MATHS marksheet/Excel spreadsheet for current Year 9's set up for September which I could possibly have a look at to see what schools are entering and what they are using/recording on the marksheets for the new 1-9 GCSE system

Every school will be different... your assessment/monitoring probably isn't going to change a huge amount at the class level, if you look at the back of that earlier document, you can see the new 1-9 grades mapped to existing A*-G grades. Just set up a gradeset that accepts 1-9 (or even a marks-integer aspect limited to 9) and then staff can enter data in to that just as they would have done an 'old' GCSE grade.

It would really depend on how you use your marksheets - are teachers expected to enter data regularly, or is it for them to just update estimated grades and see things like residuals? Really, you should probably sit down with your head of maths and ask them what they want.

 

for your 1-9 residuals, it'd be the same thing you're currently doing, but instead of dividing by 6, you can leave that step out.

 

Personally, we used to use Group Analyses to see residuals, as it allows for a quicker view - I had the formula on the marksheets, but typically our HoDs preferred the Group Analyses.

 

We also track how many grades they are above/below - while it's good to know a student isn't performing to target, it's even better to know that they are 2 or even 3 grades under target.

yes we work out residuals for KS4- so in SIMS we do formula entry which works out the difference between estimated grade and Target and then another column nested if else if 0 = yellow if more than 0 = green and if below 0 = red

 

If I've read the above correctly, that's not a residual as commonly expressed, it's RAGing (Red, Amber, Green for below, on, above) - explains my misunderstanding.

 

Residuals are commonly used to compare performance in one subject against all the others taken by a student, so maths estimate - average of all other subject estimates = residual (positive is better in maths than the average and vice versa).

 

This is easy even using the mixed currency of A*-G and 9-1 provided you either have common points values for both systems, or a lookup that converts the grades to a common points system.

 

My Marksheets for september will be something like this:

 

KS2 score | FFT Estimate | Last Tracking Grade from previous year | Autumn 1 Tracking | Autumn 2 Tracking | etc |

 

The tracking would be RAG'ed each term against FFT Estimate.

I have managed to work out average fine levels for my year 9 cohort. But can any one help me convert these into a 1-9 GCSE grade please? Does anyone have the boundaries. Many thanks

Since the DfE haven't decided what the boundaries are (and probably won't until they get the results in summer 2016) you'll be guessing like the rest of us.

 

At the moment I'm using fine grades (A*1, A*2 etc) - using the fine grades A*1 = 9, A*3 = 8, A = 7, B2 = 6, C1 & B3 = 5, C3 & D1 = 4, E = 3, F= 2, G = 1

 

BUT I'm going to be amending my lookup tables whenever the DfE announce their latest tweak to their intentions.

 

Our staff will be using A*-G until the first cohort actually sit their new 9-1 GCSEs.
