Saving for a house involves years of austerity and spending control. And it gets you in the habit of putting enough aside for your rent (that should be your minimum per month). And once you have the deposit you have the extra agony of getting legal fees and taxes together.

My recommendation - save more. Sure, you've doubled that deposit but the more money you have as a deposit on a house, the less you'll be paying for a mortgage. If you could save £1000 per month and held off buying for 2 years, you'd have another £24k on your budget for a house. That's a huge lump of money for someone as young as you.

Since there's 3 of us living together, I'm able to put a bit of cash away each month. With that in mind, I'm constantly looking at new PC parts (though very rarely buying.)

Next on my purchase list in a 144Hz monitor and possibly.. Maybe.. a mechanical keyboard (if they can come up with one that looks aggressive and gamer-like.. yes I'm vain about my PC. Deal with it.)

That's sound advice right there! Saving money now means that life is easier when it's time to buy a house - there are always unexpected things that cost money that you just don't think of until you've experienced the true joy of house ownership... collapsed drains, leaky roof, exploding boiler, etc.

To get back on topic... IT is work for me, I'm just not into the latest and greatest phones, the last console I bought was a PS2 and although I've got an iPad at home, it mostly gets used as a paperweight or to watch some Netflix.

I prefer to spend my money on holidays! Going to weird, wonderful or even familiar places to experience new things and see amazing sights is something I really love!

Me too. Why not see all you can while you can!

As for the money - you must have some to play with so I would probably up the monthly savings a bit but also do some fun things.

Also at £100 a month your rent is very low!

Me too for holidays. You can go somewhere and that will stay with you forever, a piece of tech last a few years and gets boring.

I always look at it like this, when you are on your deathbed, a once in a lifetime trip you once went on or the iPhone 6 you bought, what would you rather have done.

I used to upgrade my PC every 6-12 months. Also as I used to work in the mobile industry developing hardware/apps I often had dev/pre-release phones sent me from samsung, rim, htc, etc I never normally had a phone for longer than a month or 2. I also used to switch cars about every 6 months.

Now I have 2 kids and work at a school so my PC hasn't had any updates for like 4 years and I'm counting down the days for when I can get a free upgrade for my S4 which likes to randomly stop seeing the sim card. I also have to do running repairs on my car at least once every couple of months to keep it going just a little longer.

Funny enough though I couldn't be happier and wouldn't change it for the world (though a bit of a payraise would be nice :) ).
