Non-standard characters

We have a students whose surname contains an ń (i.e. n with an acute accent).

On trying to enter this as part of her name listing, it automatically reverts to a standard 'n'. Is this just a result of a limitation of accepted characters for names, and is there any way around it?

It's almost certainly by design.

 

Although it's perfectly possible, and sometimes desirable, to store unicode characters in a database, searching and sorting is a nightmare as an accented 'n' is a completely different character code than a standard 'n'. These two 'n's are worlds apart, as far as the ordering is concerned.
