[ms office - 2013] Office 13 - Windows Installer v Click to Run

Hello everyone

 

I hope someone else has had all the fun with this and there's a simple answer I've overlooked!

 

I want to install Office 2013 - including the OneDrive for Business client - on around 100 of our staff laptops. I want it to activate automatically (EES customer), and I don't want the First Run guff to pop up ('Use Recommended settings etc).

 

The OneDrive for Business client, from what I'm told, is available as a standalone from the software section in Office 365, or as part of Office 365 Pro Plus retail. These both use Microsoft's new 'Click to run' installer method. The standalone installation is no good as it requires administrative rights and we have 100 or so clients to do.

 

With the Full Office 365 Pro Plus install, from what I can tell, you can only really customise a few parts of the installation - which products to install, language, display options and update location. I'd like to activate the product (either by our KMS or by MAK), and edit a few registry items to disable the first run settings etc, and allow users to sign in using their organisation IDs.

 

Office deployment toolkit with the Windows Installer package allowed me to do all of this, but it does not include the OneDrive for Business client. You cannot have the Windows Installer version of Office side-by-side with a Click to Run version as they are incompatible.

 

I've been going back and forth with Microsoft trying to work out the best way of doing this but I have this feeling we're slowly digressing. Time is also ticking as I need to have a deployment method sorted (and tested) by the end of term!

 

If anyone has any input on this it would be greatly appreciated!

All the first run settings are editable out through GPO and on our CD, it installs SykDrive for Business client which then updates to OneDrive for business over windows updates

Our WSUS is controlled by our LA at the moment - and they aren't particularly on the ball at approving updates for us!

 

We're bringing it back in house over the summer, it's just a shame I can't do it sooner to test - Thanks very much though, this could be the solution!

you can download updates to office 2013 as msp files and jst dump them in the updates folder on the install drive/media and it will install them at initial setup so for big updates you dont need to rely on wsus they are baked in out of the box (be aware it will make deployment take longer as it will sit there installing updates for a decent length of time)
